Need security equipment for house and garage
Hello
I am hopefully moving to my first house (been renting up until now). the place has a garage, drive and boundary low wall with hedges. I am looking to get a big fat gate/door instead of the gate with intercom and a small built in camera thingy, security for the garage and added security for the front and back doors, CCTV and alarm. I am based in manchester...any ideas
There is always someone on Scoobynet who is an expert in these kinds of things especially with owning Imprezas. Any help would be realy appreciated.

There are some nice CCTV suggestions on the security section right now. Seriously considering it myself.
As for an alarm, monitored and pro installed are usually the better bet.
Have a look at companies like ADT and BT

You want a good home alarm, but also something decent for your car too. There are many options available. The one thing you don't want to do is make your place look like a prison, or it will just attract attention.
Subtle measures will never really be noticed, but will hopefully protect your car, and home.

Dont go over the top,
I was turning round in a carpark recently that backs on to a lot of new houses, all the house have garages that you can access from the back. I saw one garage with 2 flashing blue LEDs fixed through the door AND two padlocks at the top and two at the bottom. What does this tell me?
Break in to garage to find something expensive!

Yes I agree about the OTT stuff defo subtle security will be the way to go... Regarding the security gates I have two young kids (7 and 2 years) there is a garden to the front back and one side of this house I want them to be able to be explore and have fun without the fear of them being harmed or 'disappearing'. Me or the wife don't want have them followed around everywhere as we did not have that when we were kids.
Thanks for the replies

Re garage security Agree with the subtle stuff ! Used to have a garage defender (painted it to match the garage door - bit more subtle but too noticable for my eyes)
so when moved house got these added to the garage door GARAGE DOOR BOLTS- SECURITY FOR UP & OVER GARAGE DOORS on eBay, Locks, Safety Security, Home Garden (item 330159996614 end time 06-Sep-07 12:48:39 BST) (Fairly easy DIY - and all bolts etc painted to blend in more)
Also consider a drop down security post - either in the garage in front of the car or on the drive as well !
Seperate alarm in the garage is worth considering with extra sounder in the house (fairly easy DIY).
Oh and any extra doors to the garage - extra 5 lever locks etc - Same applies for the back / front doors etc
Re security camera - will have to ask others about those - as dont need to go down that route - but considering it !

Why dont you go for an external pir/lighting system, I fitted a GJD system on my house this will let you know if anyone is walking around your home, it will give you an indication bleep inside the house. With cctv you can watch it the next day when something happens during the middle of the night.........

See if you can pop round the police station and see if they have time to advise you on anything (though I imagine a Crime Prevention Officer in Manc is more concerned with you not getting shot, rather than not getting your TV nicked...) Too much security and a) people will think there's something worth stealing, b) they'll just put a gun to your head at 5am and ask you politely to unlock it all.
If you have any sort of garden, then spiky plants can be quite good as a deterrent for the opportunist.
I bought my house 4 years ago with a de-activated subscription alarm. Asking on here, most people were of the opinion that it wasn't worth it as it was unlikely to prevent stuff getting stolen - better to pay money to a decent insurance company!
An alternative view for you. Anyway, hope it doesn't happen!
