Hi all

Going to Dubai and then over to the Seychells , in the first week of Jan 08 for 3 weeks .

Any do's and don't tips for either place , and do we need injections and if so what , it's not very clear on the gov website.

Lived there last year for 10 months.

No injections
All drive like they stole their cars, get cabs!
Booze only in hotels or eateries, not drunk in streets. Buy booze on the way in, strangely there is a d/f in arrivals in Dubai.
Cops hard but fair, you get one warning then a slap and jail
Jan hot, 26-30ish
No drugs - 3+ years if caught in possession
Wild Wadi (the uberwaterpark) is great fun, more so if you have kids, can take a day to really enjoy.
Usual malls for shopping, gold Souk, etc. Gold/diamonds are cheap if you hunt around.
No beggars
Very little crime whatsoever
Usual watersports and cheap

very liberal by a lot of the ME's standards. still like women to dress with some dignity which is no bad thing.

For clarification purposes isn't alcohol only served in hotels? Not restaurants? Albeit most restauarants are in hotels. However you won't get a glass of wine in a pizza huts.

Lots of building work going on, but its worth seeing. Things to consider doing: -

Gold Souk/Spice Souk (later not particularly appealling) Gold usually sold by weight, check price in paper first!

Wild Wadi

Desert Safari

Musuem (not the worlds largest or best!)

Indoor Snowdome, worth just looking in from the Mall of the Emirates

Boat trip on The Creek

Don't be surprised if the taxi takes you to where they think you want to go, not where you want to go! Has happened to both my mother and I now. Easier to go to wrong place and get a new taxi to right place as taxi drivers seem to plead inability to understand if you challenge where they are taking you!

Ah,ha!

No, we used to head of to the souk madinat after work as it was close, could always get a drink in one of the numerous bars and eateries there. However, you cannot get alcohol at any of the food hall eateries in the shopping malls.

Oh and if you want to slum it, ask a cabbie to take you to Rock Bottom - expats of all nations go there to get hammered.

Great place- lots to do . Ocean and beach great.

Food excellent , plenty of night life with wall to wall slappers . Mostly blacks from the Sudan and Nigeria and Chinese . Some Russian tarts too , but pricey.

Been going for yrs and its great this is the 1st I havent been.

Go and do the autodrome Scooby track day! Great fun works out at about £130, think theyre spec c or try the audi A3s

either way its good fun.

Just go and enjoy the food and bars!
