no wonder im popular...
been scouting around ebay, and i found this fellow, who is a full time commission artist. own webiste etc, sells prints and also does "one-off" commissions too...
thought, "this is good research" until i saw his prices...
Mark Artworks - Options and Shipping
£50 onwards for an A4 study. im doing A3's for pretty much £50, with arguably more detail.
what am i doing to myself
*note to webby*
this isnt advertising (or is in no means meant to be in any way),on my or this other dudes part. just a discussion comparing two artists.
ta, andy
p.s. feel free to discuss.

I'd happily pay £50 for a decent A4 "study"
Bought a few paintings and similar recently (a particularly nice pair of oils on canvas from nr Milan) and really appreciating having something a bit different on the wall.

And long may it continue !!!..
No, on a serious note Andy, i do think you sell yourself cheap, but if you're happy, and you enjoy it, then it's not all about the money..... after-all, you could double your prices, and then have nothing to do cos people may not pay the price.... it's always a hard balance to find in any type of craft/skilled trade situation!!

sorry but his do nothing for me. they look like something an A-level art student could do. maybe he could make a living on the beach in a Spanish resort doing pics of ugly kids that their drunk parents will like.

assuming your talking about this mark blokey? id like to think im slightly above said art student level lol.
i have noticed, there isnt a massive amount of detail in the studies available on his site. this is maybe where we differ. i usually put ridiculous amounts of detail in, which take up hours and hours, whereas this chappy (without knocking him), puts less in and charges more.
i have personally thought about selling prints on ebay for say £10 each for an A3 copy. but i then generally need the original customers consent to re-print their commission, with minor changes obviously.
this is the thing hat has stopped me making a little extra via places like ebay thus far.

Have you thought of going to a couple of local exhibitions, to give you an idea of what other people charge? If you join a local art group, you may find it gives you the opportunity to exhibit your own work. I know it's really difficult to know what to ask for, but when you see some of the crap that people will pay good money for......
Like you, I put a lot of detail (and blood, sweat and tears!) into my work. I do it in my spare time. I have just finished an oil of a leopard, which I started last November! I know what I would like to charge for it, simply because of the time involved, but I don't think anyone would pay it!

if you look at the detail in his pieces compared to the detail in mine, and also compare the price difference.... you would surely still be getting a bargain. assuming he is charging around the going rate anyone else is. looking at his work, il also hazard a guess he spends nowhere near as much time on his pieces as me. ie nick's canvas must have taken me nearly 100 hours to do over 6 weeks!

My art class teacher told me to charge an amount that reflects the value of the time put in. Somewhere around £25-£30 per hour.
BTW I looked at the Mark Artworks site and I don't really like them

I'll get me coat
I'm planning on taking some of my better photos to a craft fair soon, and as I was doing a car boot yesterday to get rid of some junk, I took some along. Got some interest until I said what I wanted for them (only £10/£15)
One woman was looking as she wanted some cheap frames! cheeky mare
