Does anyone know how to create several folders all under one another either using MS DOS or Windows Explorer?

The slow bit is creating a new folder, then creating a new folder under that one and so on and so on. Once created, it is easy to copy and paste the file structure to other directories to mirror the same structure.

But does anyone know how to create the folders and sub folders in one easy step?

eg:

+Folder1
......+Folder2
..........+Folder3
.............+Folder4
..................+Folder5
......................+Folder6
...........................+Folder7
etc

Thanks.

Only way I can think of is create a new folder in Windows Exploder,
In the right hand pane, select the new folder and CTRL-C it. Then Press CTRL-V for as many levels you want. You'll get Copy of New Folder etc. Then just drag the last folder into the penultimate one each time. Thus creating a multi level folder.

But a one step solution . . . er . . . no

Or do it with a batch file

:start
md %1
cd %1
shift
if "%1" == "" goto start

run it with parameters of the directory names you want to create.
for serious use you'd want to add to it to check for no parameters being supplied.

AFAIK that will only work if folder1\folder2\folder3 already exists.

DOS command behaviour depends a lot on what OS you're running. You can do things in NT and 2000 that you can't do in 95/98 etc..

Thanks for the replies.

Problem is my pc at work has Windows 95, they are due to be upgraded to Windows 2000 soon, so that will solve the problem.

Question

Could you not simply do the whole job in a BAT file which creates every folder manually in the correct order.

I bit of cutting and pasting in NOTEPAD is then all that you need?
