Find it a bit boring myself. Jock's right character though
Problem with them explaining the techy stuff is they don't always get it entirely right. No problem if you nothing about it, annoying when you do

Its quite entertaining but what I can't get my head round is why people are taking some high end cars to what is basically a Fred in the Shed.
If I had a decent Lambo/Ferrari I'd be either taking it to an independent speciallist (which they aren't) or leaving it up to the dealer.

Thats because a car is a car. All built and run on very similar principals - just screwed together differently
The best mechanics are the ones who don't need workshop manuals to fix stuff. Baring the odd torque wrench setting, of course
Dealers and specialists play out that it is not the case, when in reality it isn't strictly true, its an excuse to charge a premium and they exploit that as much as they can.

American Chopper is on Discovery HD as well in 5.1 Dolby Digital. Makes the disputes more fun.

You keep thinking that. If your a good mechanic, there are no boundries to what you can or can't work on. However they are fast becomming few and far between and some dealers seem struggle finding them these days too.
If a garage struggled with an Impreza, I wouldn't trust them with a 1.1 MK2 Fiesta either.

Anyone ever heard of a knocking alternator? (Hummer episode)
There is no guarantee a dealer would be any better: I was working on a AHU unit situated in an Audi workshop. In comes an old Audi Quattro sounding like a dog. Mechanic (cough, sorry, "technician" ) looks over it all puzzed, pokes about a bit...at which point I remarked that cam timing sounds out. He rudely blind sighted me and carried on, and ended up looking through the TSB bulletins on his PC. About 45mins later he finally takes off the cam covers to check the timing marks...guess what, yup timing out. And I'm no mechanic! Point being...is the customer getting charged for that 45mins he spent faffing about? I wonder if the same dealer had previously replaced that troublesome cambelt too.
