vendee france
now the weather is getting a bit ****ty and i start to suffer with SAD i thought its time to consider our next family break!
i have never been to franc before and like the idea of being on the south/west coast atlantic.
i assume the sea food would be excellent and the beeches not so crowded as the south of france mediteranian side?
has anyone got any comments on the whole of the southern area of france be it atlantic or med?

Arachon is nice, drive down to Bordeaux, take a right and keep going until you see the huge sand dunes. If you're after rowdy nightlife it's not for you.

But most French beaches are crowded in the summer months, especially July and August. If you can do June, it's less crowded but the weather isn't as reliable.
One of the major problems with seaside areas is access. Roads that are fine for 10 months a year can become nightmares during French holiday season.
And gone are the days when almost all of France shut down for the last week in July, and first week in August, leaving the rest of the summer relatively empty. Now expect holiday places to be HEAVING with Dutch and French from July to August, and French, Germans Spanish and English during August.
Thought of holidaying beside a river, instead? There are some crackers in France, including the Tarn and Verdon, with their magnificent gorges.
Bookings for anywhere during July and August best done asap after Jan 1st.

The Vendee isn't really the South. HTH.
It's a good place to visit for beaches etc., but not many interesting places to go and visit IMHO. Although the causeway across to Ile de Noirmoutier is interesting.
