Default TomTom Navigator 6/Bluetooth GPS

Hello,

Anyone running TomTom Nav 6 with the TomTom bluetooth GPS receiver?

I just got mine delivered, but it doesn't seem to see the bluetooth GPS receiver. The instructions that come with it are frankly quite pap. My device (O2 XDA Mini S) sees the bluetooth device, but the TomTom software tells me nothing is present.

If someone with Navigator on a Windows Mobile 5 device has theirs working, I'd like to know how, before I make a phone call and complain I've been sent duff goods

Cheers,
Steve.

Don't know, it might have, but the instructions are rubbish frankly.

Once I start the TomTom software it tells me straight away "No GPS found". The receiver is on (I assume a flashing green light means it's on, the instructions don't say anything), bluetooth is on obviously, my device sees the GPS receiver in the bluetooth connection settings, and I've paired them. But no matter what I do, the TomTom software maintains there is no GPS device.

After a few minutes the green light stops flashing on the receiver, but like I say, the instructions are pretty much worthless so I don't know if that's normal or not. I'm starting to think this was a bad purchase

the GPS unit can take about 2 mins to get a signal and only then once it has will Tomtom see the GPS unit. Have you gone into the options in TomTom and made sure it's got the TT GPS receiver as the default one?

Can't help with TT6. I use TT5 on my XDA Exec and the original TT BT GPS mouse does not work with it. The XDA sees it, pairs with it etc TT never sees it though. I ended up buying a new GPS and that works fine. I even tried GPSgate, a bit of software to set up virtual com ports and that did not help.

Yep, all configured, registered, set up, all done from what I can tell.

What sequence do you do to turn it on? None of this is actually explained, and I'm reasonably intelligent and can't work it out. Once I turn on the receiver, the green light comes on, solid at first, then flashes, then it goes off. I take it that means the receiver has switched itself off, do you know?

Edit to add, I don't do hookey copies of anything, this was just delivered sealed, and it seems, not working.

I turn my GPS on and it is a solid green until it obtains a fix then it flashes green. It turns itself off if there is no communication with TT for 10 mins. Have you tried setting it to "Other Bluetooth GPS" in the TT settings. Mine has to be set to that or it does not work. As I said I don't use the TT GPS though. Had far to many problems with it so I got a different one. There are loads of reported problems with TT BT GPS and the XDAs.

Do as above. blinking green means locked on. check in the TT prefs what GPS device it's looking for. you sure they're paired?

Other than that I don't see what else can be wrong.

Yeah I went through the manual bluetooth pairing method, but it still doesn't seem to work.

Thanks for your help though, clearly something is wrong, looks like I'll be sending it back. Can't say I'm impressed in the slightest!

Cheers,
Steve.

I wouldn't give up that easily. If the GPS device locks on as it seems and you can pair by bluetooth then it seems the GPS device is working so it's down to something you're doing. have you tried changing the GPS in the prefs? you need to give us more feedback.

I've had a brainwave that it may be due to the incoming/outgoing ports on bluetooth pairing, so I will uninstall and reinstall when I get home tonight, and bitch slap it to hell and back. Then you will get more feedback

Cheers!

Ok, reinstalled, all working. Doesn't make any sense because I hadn't done anything different, but cheers for your help

Steve.
