Help with RC car for son
Am looking at getting my son a RC car for Christmas, have seen this one
Bonzer R/C Truck - Electric radio controlled cars
But dont really know enought about them to know if its good or bad.
Ive got a about £150 to spend, has to be fairly quick and robust, and electric rather than petrol.
Can someone point me in the right direction of a good one ??
cheers

I used to have Tamiya cars several years ago - seemed quite well designed, and good spares availability. They are kits rather than ready-made.
Tamiya - RC racing at its best!
Have fun!

Got a Tamiya TL01 of ebay couple years ago for about 100 quid. Good fun.
Tough also got it jammed under my old calibras back wheels had to boot it out.
They eat batterys though so by some extra one of ebay cheap enough and a fast charger. Charges a battery in something like 3 hours instead of 20.
You can alos get chargers to work of your car battery if you are out and about.
Hope this helps.

I was really into r/c cars a few years back and raced at various clubs. The tamiya cars are great starter cars and provide a good basis if ya lad decides to start racing in the future. Be careful though - it's a slippery slope and can cost a fortune as modding is just as mad in the r/c world as it is in the Scooby world
I would seriously recommend you build your own as you will then have a good knowledge of how to fix it if the car argues with a wall or similar.

I had one years and years ago. I really enjoyed the build process - hardly complex, taught me a lot, including how to fix it...
I think I enjoyed the tinkering more than the actual driving of the thing

My son was bought a Tamiya Super Fighter G for his birthday. I'm really impressed. All in about £100 including radio control and charger. I used to race rc cars and agree with building it yourself. It only took three of us a whole afternoon , but at least you know how to fix it when things break, which they will. Also you can upgrade parts as mentioned above. Some ready builts will be glued or push fit so the parts cannot be replaced.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.

got a tamiya 4x4 escort cossie rally car, as said above tis self build, but not hard (built mine easily in a day when i was about 16) also usefull cos it got run over (grrr dad and his v70 volvo) so i knew how to repair and rebuild it, still works, although i rarely use it (now 24 lol).
if you do go for it i would recomend getting 2 spare batteries and a fast charger (will wipe out a battery in 15 mins, and fast charger takes 20 mins to charge it again)

Hi mate try this site,
British Radio Car Association
Its the british radio car association, with links to all sorts
Id recommend going to a local, decent model shop near you and having a chat with someone in the know, but buy a popular model (so if it does breaks, and it probably will at some point) then the parts are to hand.
Ive had a Hotbodies Lightening (nitro) for 2 years now and its very very fast, great fun and its easy to get parts, and if you dont mind tinkering its easy to fix too. Bit fast for a young lad tho, but it is soo much fun, would cream my scooby to 50mph big time

pmsl, tbh those tamiya might be a bit to advance for him, possibly anyway, they do up to 30mph as kit, then if moded then 60mph isn't that impossible.
but you get step by step instructions, saying grease here, screw here etc etc

Monster trucks can generally take much more bashing cos of their size, looks fine too me mate, but try to see one first if you can, and have a look at it with the shell off to see if their are any obvious flimsy looking bits that are vunerable, but to be honest that will probably be sweet for an intro into the RC world.
I know i would of been chuffed to bits if i got one of those when i was a kid

Took me ages to decide weather to go electric or nitro, racer/buggy/monster truck
decided on a nitro buggy just for the bashing potential, much more assault factor ive had silly air with mine and it always comes back for more, well most of the time have gone through a few cracked suspension arms, but sod it they only cost a couple of quid, well worth it

lol, bit cheaper than running a normal car
got mine before i became aware of nitro, not sur if it was around at the time, might get a one now though, in the mood to build one again
would have to be a touring car though

Nitro touring cars are mint, soooooooooo fast but big shortage of places to use them to their full potential thats why i went for a buggy, use them anywhere, especially after work in the massive car park and the bmx tracks for stupid air and big drifts

Use brca link
Find a good model shop and go have a gander.
I got mine from a model shop in chapel (manchester) they really know there stuff, but u'll find model shops near u using the link
Get a buggy, miles more places to use them and you can beat the hell outta them good for about 50 mph (in about 2-3 seconds) and can be modded for miles more
