Thumbs up has anyone tried Omega 3 on their kids?

i know some schools have used it on kids with great results and wondered if anyone uses it on their own children and did it make a big difference?

my daughter has brain damage so i thought it would be good for her

I watched a documenatary recently that said it has yet to be proven to provide any medical benefits whatsoever.
If you watch that new Danacol advert with the heart on wheels, it says that Omega 3 may help maintain a healthy heart whereas plant sterols are 'proven' to lower blood pressure...There's the difference.
Incredibly clever marketing, but at the end of the day, Mrs Squares , it certainly won't do anyone any harm

My wife works for The Red Cross, they deal with head injured children and have access to loads of clinical reports and store data for use as to best treatments for different types of requirements. Will send you pm with contact details, may not relate but cant hurt.

If they're being fed properly then there should be plenty of Omega 3 in their diet.

my daughter eats a very healthy diet as she has other conditions that require this, but she isnt that keen on fish and school meals are not necassarily that well balanced. giving extra omega 3 doesnt mean that her diet is wrong

Unless she's at public school, then a school dinner is only one meal out of three so there's plenty of opportunity to feed her properly and fish isn't the only source of Omega 3.

If her diet is balanced, giving her more is like trying to put another 10 litres of fuel in the car when the tanks already full, a waste of money and effort.

Hi Sara,
My boys were both taking omega 3 last school year. I dont know if it was coincidence or not but my eldest really calmed down, and his behaviour improved at school (he has always been fidgity, doesnt hold his attention for long etc) and so ended up having a great year and got fantastic marks for his SATs. My youngest however, i wouldnt say there was any change at all, but as some others have said, it cant hurt to try. The boys hated the capsules, so I would avoid them, but they liked the syrup and if you have a shop called 'home Bargains' near you they do it over a £ cheaper than Boots, Asda etc.

i think i am going to get a syrup called IQ. you cant measure the amount of O3 your kids are getting through foods so with capsules or syrup you can be sure they have the right amount.....i might take it as well
