Question Getting Money OUT Of South Africa

Hypothetical question, of course.

What's the legal amount of readies (ie cash) that you can take out of RSA ?
Anyone know ?
Would be in Rand, not any other currency.

I think the limit for readies coming into the UK is either £10k or £15k, of any currency.

Thumbs up

No foreign exchange control for foreign investors and effectively none for RSA citizens either - not like the ex con days anymore

Don't do what someone I know did - converted his cash into an illegal substance in order to improve his return, got caught importing it, did 18 months in a UK prison and then got deported back to SA

Question

So as a UK Citizen (ie 3 month tourist), you can bring the readies out with no hassles ?

There must be a limit, though, surely ?

Not sure, as the scooby is still in NZ waiting to be shipped.

At least 2 tracks nearby, and i think 100 RON is available (albeit with 10% ethanol ?)

Yeah, the scooby should run very well.

Question

If you're a foreign citizen and the rand readies are in a RSA bank account then just do the forex and transfer them to your off shore account. Shouldn't be a problem - i wouldn't carry readies of significant size anywhere if I was you - unless they are slightly dodge readies....

It's not my bank a/c, hence the cash.
They might be slightly dodgy too, hence the cash again.
Not talking megabucks either.
Only about R20 000 so that's about £2,000 ish ?
