Recommendations for replacing DVD player and VHS???
Hi we've got a couple of cheap old units to play VHS videos (Matsui - noisy ) and DVDs (Medion - refuses to play some DVDs sometimes & box display unit has failed )
Is it worth getting a combined unit to replace them? - I had been thinking of getting a DVD RW at some point - preferably with Freeview tuner... Any point getting HD ready stuf (if it's available )
Or should I just hang on for something 'round the corner'
Any advice appreciated...
Cheers

hd is not suported properly yet give it another year shy only have a small hand full of channels
if your only on a small budget leave hd for about a year if you have the cast to spend go 4 it
dvds... sony are releasing blue ray soon and there is a oposition against it as well so you will have the vhs vs betamax war all over again
the 1st blue ray players a going to be about £1000
i say just get a reasonable make (sony tosh panasonic) video player and dvd you could get a combined but if 1 screws up you lose both wile its being repaired
there is only one rule
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY 4 !

As Rhybeck says - you get what you pay for. I would recommend getting something with a hard disk in it. We ditched our VHS a couple of months ago and it's been so much easier just sticking stuff onto the HDD

I'd get a Freeview box with built in HD for recording. Most things you'll watch and then wipe so the HD route is most convenient. For backing up and DVD playbeck you could get on of the cheap multiregion recorders from Richer Sounds. The cheaper players tend to play more formats, especially pirates Quality VCR's can be had for peanuts these days, but are getting harder to find. I got a JVC S-VHS NICAM unit for 70 quid off Amazon recently to replace a blown-up old one.
For the FV/HD look at Humax, Topfield or Fusion (worth a look).
Richer's have decent name MR DVD-R's for 120 up CLICKY.

Yes the HD units are brilliant - we've got a Thompson DHD4000 unit - best bit of kit we've got I think one of the best bits is the guide where you get all the info on the prrogramme saved as well as the programe itself
Thanks for the comments guys...
Anyone got something like PanasonicDMR-EX95V http://www.panasonic.co.uk/dvd-recor...vebs/index.htm
Super Multi Format, 4 in 1 HDD Combi Recorder with Freeview Tuner, 250GB Hard Disk Drive and VHS Combi
Looks fantastic... Not far short of £600 at the moment though - not really looking at spending anywhere near that kind of money
Cheers

I binned my VHS recently and got a Pioneer DVR-440HX Digital HDD/DVD Recorder, its brilliant, only standard def obviously but it has freeview tuner and it is so easy to record stuff from the TV, I can really recommend them.
VHS is dead here at my house now

We still need VHS - the kids have got loads of tapes - But the hum of the machine drives the missus potty . It's probably cheaper to get a good quality VHS as a separate item & then focus on what we need as regards DVD stuff....
So any recommendations for a nice quiet VHS unit? - doesn't need to be high quality picture - only the kids watching - doesn't even need to record
Ah well - that's life
Cheers
