The country with the lowest gun (or any other serious) crime per capita in all the Americas. And most of the Western world.
Still, no need to let the facts get in the way of a cheap throwaway comment, right?

canada is in america
its still easy to get hold of guns over there which is my whole point. The average kid in the UK would have trouble getting hold of a gun, especially one thats not a rebore.

You can still get hold of automatic weapons over here if you really want to.

Guns are easy to get hold of over here for people who want to cause trouble. I really don't know why you can't see that.
I'm sure the families of all the (possibly) dead an injured will be comforted by your well thought and compassionate comments.
I hope that one day you can experience their grief too.

Thankfully there is a difference between Canada and the US, regardless of them sharing the same continent.
In the US you have the right to bear arms, it's part of the constitution. Firearms are very easily obtained, for example, just walk into your local walmart and you can pick up a gun (depending on state you might even need to have a gun licence and show ID ).
From my experience in Ontario, you cannot do the above, well, not unless you want a paintball gun or air-rifle, they certainly don't sell handguns in the local walmart or Canadian Tire.
I think the same thing applies to Quebec, though they are a bunch of frenchies, so tend to be a little different to the rest of Canada

Canada has virtually the same gun ownership per capita that the USA has. However, the US has 100 times the gun murders per capita than Canada.
You do the math. Bit like comdemning the UK for Hungerford and Dunblane.

Still agree that if you wanted to, you could get a gun quite easy over here though

I asked a few buddies about gun purchasing in Canada vs the US and they told me the following:
It's very difficult. For Rifles & Shotguns, there are many courses required, most importantly the FAC (Firearms Acquisition Certificate) not to mention the background checks and references...
To get access to a handgun, you need this plus a restricted weapons permit, which is even more difficult to get. With this you are still only allowed to transport the weapon to/from the shooting range (locked in a gun case), and it must remain locked in a gun safe at home. Oh yeah and you cannot discharge it pretty much anywhere BUT a shooting range.
and
In Virginia (where I live), if you have a clean background (not a felon), you can purchase a handgun whenever you want.
Buying a rifle/shotgun is even easier...I don't think a background check is required for those.
