remember the thread about digging holes at the beach?
Remember that thread a while back about not digging holes because of all the heath and safety rules..... well heres what I did whilst on holiday
Now son, Daddy has dug a big hole, just try it for size
Bit deeper I think
and I think your brother can get buried as well
No-one hurt and everyone had fun..it can be done

you and r32 dont get it do you. That was precisely why I posted this, just to show you can have fun, without all the H&S moaners..but people are so worried now that they wont try anything because of all the scare stories and....well you two have just proved that.

Just because you dug a hole and no-one died, doesn't mean it can't happen to someone else.
Kids could probably play with fireworks quite often and not get injured, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
I'm glad you had a great time at the beach, but I'm sure your kids would have had a great time whether you dug a big hole or not.
The little girl who died had lifeguards, coastguards and firefighters all trying to dig her out, but she still died, which puts in to perspective how dangerous it is. Perhaps you think that if the hole had collapsed you would somehow be better equipped than them to do something about it?

I'm not a killjoy, but I think that a post that encourages people to take risks with their children just to make a point is a bit daft.

I'm sure he did everything he could to make it safe, I just don't see the point in coming on here and telling everyone that it's ok to do it.
TBH, if the hole suddenly collapsed, I'm not sure that being supervised would make much difference.

Strewth, kids having fun on beach shocker!
On a serious note, they should have been wearing hard hats with signage erected around the hole notifying others of deep excavations.

anyone remember the backpacker on the top of the twin towers photo (with the AA flight inbound!).....it was then re-produced in various "wow...he survived" scenarios.
i can see that grinning kid ending up photoshoped into a variety of stupid locations to prove how safe they are.......not that i want to give anyone any ideas

on a serious note.......the dead kid was 3 years old in a 5ft hole.....she could have been supervised by the cast of baywatch for all the good it would have done.

Sand, once caved in around a human frame, will prevent the chest from expanding REGARDLESS of a clear mouth passage.
2 mins - Blackout
8 mins - Braindead
Now recall how long it took to dig that hole, and that was without having to carefully dig around a childs body.......
Yep, you're fcuked...........

Oh FFS you lot
Why dont you get this post as it meant to be taken. i.e with a pinch of salt and a sly dig at all the H&S scare mongerers. If you lot remember the original post, it went on and on for pages about oh you shouldnt do that and you cant do this etc etc.
And all you lot that suggested that what I did was not without an element of danger, well if you had bothered to see the second picture, you will see that my son was not buried, I had simply lain on the sand to make it look like he was.
Also whilst he was standing there, he was surounded by at least 5 adults, we were up at the top of the beach away from the waters edge, the tide was going out etc. So even though it was a close call, I thought it was ok and well within the safety parameters of "having some fun".
yes they did have a great time doing other stuff, but the hole digging was just another part of the fun.
oh and my youngest (3) was not actually buried, if you look closely you will see that the sand is actually built up around him and he was in fact sitting in about 10 " of hole. Dear god what was I thinking !!!
So please get a grip and stop adding to the hysteria that is threatening to stop us doing anything remotely fun......

I think everyone got the point of the thread?
You were having a go at so called killjoys who are trying to stop people digging massive holes on the beach. I was merely pointing out that things can go wrong and you probably aren't aware how quickly it could happen.

FCD - all very true, but if there wasn't such a rampant, thriving compensation culture, we wouldn't have to be nannied. Vicious circle. And now we're in it, we won't be getting out of it anytime soon, unfortunately.

Couldn't agree with you more, and if swisstony wants to do that then I don't have a problem. What I don't get, is why do it then go on about it on here? It's almost like I don't care if a 3 year old girl died tragically, I'm going to carry on doing it and tell everyone, not only that I'm going to take pictures of my kids to prove it.
Maybe I am missing the point, it's just not funny to me!

Strictly speaking you shouldnt have brushed their teeth before leaving in case one of them swallowed the toothpaste and had an allergic reaction...
Then you shouldnt have taken them by transport in case of an accident of some kind...
You certainly shouldnt have taken off their tops as they might get skin cancer, and as for digging a hole in the sand! Well....
Seriously... Glad you all had a great time doing something families have been doing for decades... Keep it up!

Glad to see your boys were having fun, Swiss..
It's nice to see a parent involving themselves with their kids rather than just letting them run riot and grow up into mindless thugs
Your boys are real cuties - must take after their mother
