DVLA, tax disc reading cameras?
I passed a DVLA van this morning with a camera sat on the road behind it, pointing at the passing traffic, the sign under the camera stated it was reading tax discs.
Is this for real? I mean...if cars are travelling past at 40mph, a tax disc is say 7cm in diameter, it's sunny - lots of reflections, dirty windscreens, uneven road. What chances are there of getting a clear image of anyones tax disc?
Is this just a scare tactic or a proven way to catch tax dodgers?
Ideas anyone?

It checks your no. plate against DVLA computer which then shows if the car has not tax or insurance or any o/s offences against car / driver. I totally back this up & for once the police are doing some good against illegal drivers.

Yup, one one my mate's still insists on having his tax disk really low in the window "so the police can't scan it from their cameras".. tried to tell him numerous times but he won't have it

I know that NL believes speeding is the most serious crime in the UK but taking dangerous vehicles off the road just as important if not more so!

Too right Paul!
I often pass the VOSA & DVLA vans parked in the same place, I alway get a feeling of satifaction seeing the number of cars they've caught and clamped.
It does make me mad to think that so many drives are out there uninsured, untax, no MOT or no have not even passed a driving test.

Wasted an entire day trying to tax my car the other day after losing the log book, Was told i could not tax or sorn it , When i asked wtf i was meant to do he said he was not sure and kindly pointed me to my closest dvla centre 100 miles away! Looked on their website and found the closest centre was in fact 14 miles away.
