Yes, but it was "indefinately" for 5 and a half years! I was utterly stunned to hear this on the radio this evening, at first I was thinking "good job" then they said "for a minimum of 5 and a half years." Whole new use of indefinately that any I've previously met.

oh and 4 years for "for downloading pornographic images, to run concurrently.

Makes me feel ashamed of the society that we live in, how can this be seen as justice? Give this person to 99.9% of the decent members of society that we live in and he would then see the penalty that he really deserves.

IF he had been locked up indefinitely in the first place he would not have had the chance to ruin another childs life.

He was on PROBATION when he systematically raped this girl over a 3 year period - ON PROBATION - UNDER SUPERVISION FFS.

He is eligible for parole after 5yrs and 7months which seems ludicrous, he has proved himself to be a menace to children and should remain behind bars until he is dead. He had and was attending councelling so that was money and time well spent then. He passed a parole board and tests to get out so he could do his worse.

I hope the little girl is ok and can get over what she has been put through by this piece of human garbage that should never see the light of day again.

Disgusting, indefinitely should mean just that, not 5 years !!

How on earth are we to protect our children if freaks like this are allowed to be kept loose on the streets?

Looks like keeping your kids locked indoors or only going out with you so you know where they are and who they're with is the only way to keep them away from paedo's these days, which in effect is punishing kids because the justice system won't keep these locked away like they should.

Is this not proof enough that "treatment" of these sick and twisted individuals is simply not possible.

Five years is nothing to the lifetime of fear, horror, shame, and guilt he's put his victims through.

Execute him or sell him to a research lab to experiment on. He cannot and will not be rehabilitated and he should not be classed as human and thus has no human rights.

Makes me sick, oooh, their human rights are infringed because of this that and the bloody other, yet what about their victim's human rights? After all, they didn't ask for the terrible things they put them through, yet have to live with it each day of their lives in their memory It's something that a lot of victims never get over and can never forget, yet the dirty gets who commit the abuse get away almost scott free!

No it doesn't! There aren't more paedos around these days. There aren't more attacks taking place. It's just that those that do happen are big news stories.

There's a clue in the news story where it refers to him "repeatedly raping ... since the girl was about six (she's now nine)". It also says that he befriended the girl's parents and that she referred to him as "Uncle Kevin". That suggests that it wasn't a one-off incident where he snatched the girl at random as she was walking to school and took her away to rape her.

The huge majority of sexual attacks on children are done by people known to and trusted by the child and the parents. The number of children abducted and raped while they're out playing unattended is tiny (and is no greater than it was 30 or 40 years ago). Some parents don't realise this though and feel it necessary to wrap the kids in cotton wool, drive them the 800 yards to and from school, etc.

The guy is evil and deserves greater punishment than it appears that he's getting, but his case doesn't prove that children are in more danger from random strangers than they used to be.
