Question local channels and freeview on sky???

hello geeks

I wanna get sky but can you get local channels on satellite? What about freeview channels? Don't want to pay for freeview box on top of the sky

Depends on the sky package,not all have E4.

I'm talking about the regional BBC an ITV channels

how does satellite know where you are? Or can you pick from all the UK regions?

The main BBC and ITV channels on Sky default to your local regional channels so you get your local news.

Does it using the viewing card. They know where you live and the card is setup to use the right channel for your area.

the installer sets these channels when he fits the box, so that ITV for example is the correct on for you area....

you can still view all the other regions bbc / itv

ITV REGIONS
To get ITV1 regions outside your area on Sky Digital, this is what you do.
Press Services
Press 4 – System Setup
Press 4 – Add channels
You get to the Add Channels page, where you need to insert four bits of information.
Border, Meridian, Yorkshire – frequency is 10891, polarisation is H, symbol rate is 22.0 and FEC is 5/6 (type in the frequency, then use arrows to move down and the right arrow to get H, 22.0 and 5/6). Select "Find channels" and a list of the channels comes up. Press Yellow to store the channels you want to view.
Channel, Grampian, Scottish, UTV – frequency is 10906, polarisation is V, symbol rate is 22.0 and FEC is 5/6 (type in the frequency, then use arrows to move down and the right arrow to get H, 22.0 and 5/6). Select "Find channels" and a list of the channels comes up. Press Yellow to store the channels you want to view.
London, Central, HTV and Westcountry, Border – frequency is 10832, polarisation is H, symbol rate is 22.0 and FEC is 5/6 (type in the frequency, then use arrows to move down and the right arrow to get H, 22.0 and 5/6). Select "Find channels" and a list of the channels comes up. Press Yellow to store the channels you want to view.
Anglia, Tyne Tees – frequency is 10714, polarisation is H, symbol rate is 22.0 and FEC is 5/6 (type in the frequency, then use arrows to move down and the right arrow to get H, 22.0 and 5/6). Select "Find channels" and a list of the channels comes up. Press Yellow to store the channels you want to view.
London, Granada, Anglia, Central – frequency is 10758, polarisation is V, symbol rate is 22.0 and FEC is 5/6 (type in the frequency, then use arrows to move down and the right arrow to get V, 22.0 and 5/6). Select "Find channels" and a list of the channels comes up. Press Yellow to store the channels you want to view.
To view these channels, you will need to press Services then 6 – Other Channels.

so basically the only thing I might loose out on is E4 depeding on wot package I get?

All the BBC regional channels are available at all times on Sky.

Start at Channel 972 (BBC1 Wales) to 992 (BBC2 NI).
993 is ITV London, and 994 is the London Channel4.

Useful when your region is not showing something the other regions are (quite often here in Scotland).

PS They're all available on freeview on Sky.

(sort of double post, but the link above in a previous post has the wrong Sky channel numbers - they recently changed them).

Oh, and yes, Freeview has E4 and More4, but Sky enrypt it on freesat. That's the only main channel missing on Sky Freeview (freesat).

Presumably maybe because Channel4 don't want E4 going out to mainland Europe?

Go to sky.com and look at the package deals, they list out what chanels go with what package.
