XP is miles better than 98SE, 2k or Milennium for home use. It's more stable with miles better driver support and hardware detection.
2k is a business o/s, not that great for home use but more stable than 98SE.
I'm running XP on my home machine and it's been great so far. Also running it on my laptop and have had none of the famous 're-registration' problems when docking.
Hope this helps

I have windows xp pro. running in vmware on my pc, and I don't rate it yet... need to play around more but I prefer 2000, running 4 copies of advanced server (2000) as well... however I dont play games on it... I would stick with 98 for the moment, until you find something that needs it..
however ICant comment on xp home edition... but I'll scream if my company decide to put xp on the desktops.. Hoping for metaframe xp on win2k instead!

Cheers chaps,
The request was moreso out of curiosity, but you've confirmed my thoughts - stick with 98se for the time being....
Nice one
