Question

Topic sez it all - what's the difference?

Is it worth getting or cough up for Win 2000?

Use : home machine (Athlon 1.2GHz/512Meg Ram/ Hercules GTS 64meg g/card) used for games and internet

Cool

XP is miles better than 98SE, 2k or Milennium for home use. It's more stable with miles better driver support and hardware detection.

2k is a business o/s, not that great for home use but more stable than 98SE.

I'm running XP on my home machine and it's been great so far. Also running it on my laptop and have had none of the famous 're-registration' problems when docking.

Hope this helps

if u use it for games check that the stuff you want to run is supported / runs on XP.

i doubt much except the latest are supported ?

eg : max payne is NOT officially supported but should be ok ?

I have windows xp pro. running in vmware on my pc, and I don't rate it yet... need to play around more but I prefer 2000, running 4 copies of advanced server (2000) as well... however I dont play games on it... I would stick with 98 for the moment, until you find something that needs it..

however ICant comment on xp home edition... but I'll scream if my company decide to put xp on the desktops.. Hoping for metaframe xp on win2k instead!

Thumbs up

Cheers chaps,

The request was moreso out of curiosity, but you've confirmed my thoughts - stick with 98se for the time being....

Nice one
