Exclamation Probs with Vista RC1 working on ABIT AV8 mobo? - HELP!!!!

I've got the MS Vista RC1 DVD set and have installed (32 bit ) fine on my ABIT AN7 system - and also on my hard drives from the ABIT AV8 system in the AN7 machine - if you know what I mean...

BUT for the life of me I can not get Vista 32 or 64 to install on my AV8 machine - using same DVD Rom device and hard drives and software DVD that worked on the AN7 machine

Specs of the 2 machines are below...

Any ideas would be much appreciated... The AV8 machine has only recently been set up - are the possibly any drivers that I may have overlooked installing that might make a difference.

The installation pretty much always goes the same on the AV8 machine - a bit slow loading compared to the AN7 but gets through to 'Expanding files' and nearly always stops at 8% - a couple of times I got excited when we hit 11% and once 14% - but it didn't go any further

I now have the multiboot setup basically loaded on my AN8 machine by loading software using the AN7 machine...

I initially boot into the Vista style multi boot option:

Older windows
Windows Vista
Win98SE

If I choose Older Windows - I get the original XP multi boot option of XP or Win98
If I choose Windows Vista - I get a momentary (just a flicker on screen) BSOD and a restart...

If I choose Win98SE it hangs...

Seems my wheeling and dealing has not got me very much closer...

Thanks

I couldn't get it to install on my system either, that was until I did a new dvd, burned at 2x.

Apparently anything faster can cause issues.

Thanks for your response...

I have the DVDs posted from microsoft - so shouldn't be any trouble with the software media... In fact I have managed to install already on one of my PCs (main email and work machine) running an ABIT AN7 board with Xp2400+ chip with 200 GB SATA hard drive...

I am having trouble installing on another setup on an ABIT AV8 running a 64 x2 4200+ chip which is where I really wanted it on my 'playing about' machine running triple boot with Win98 and XP Pro.

Cheers

Is the machine overclocked? If it is, reduce to standard. Also, memory takes a hell of a bashing during installs of Vista, so you could try loosening the timings and see if that helps.

Ahhh... Yes that's something i mean't to do - I increased the RAM voltage and changed the graphics card but I mean't to do the memory timings as well - Thanks The RAM is 2-2-2-5, but the lowest latency modules recommended for my board (by Corsair) are 2-3-3-6 - I'll give that a go - atempted Vista install 'take 27'

Why don't you download the latest vista build instead of using RC1?

RC2 build 5744 is out now, go download that and see if that makes any difference.

It installs fine on my HP NC6000 laptop, and also upgraded fine from the last RC1 build to the current RC2 build.

Mem timings didn't work... I've had a suggestion to disable Guru clock, & onboard LAN etc... Oh well some more ideas to try...

Can't get Vista RC2 anymore as far as I know (& I don't have a DVD burner anyway ), & I don't know anyone geeky enough to have a copy they could do for me LOL

Cheers

Question

Wurzel - I tried that link just out of interest - it just gets me a download of windowsvista.htm - I don't yet have a DVD burner so I probably won't go for that at the mo anyway But might have been tempted if it was an easy download - or found a mate with aburner they could lend... I'm sure I read somewhere that you do do it by CD installation - anyone know about this?

Cheers
