is the Internet a load of sh*t ?
Following on from AOL's morbid fascination with insane mentalist orwell...but without the total lack of hope.. I ask...
Is the internet just full of sh*t ?
After using it for about 5 years I now realise that I've probably only learnt about 10 worthwhile facts from it, maybe downloaded some software drivers and got some new DVD's etc - I've spent far too much time trawling through the vile opinions of genuinely insane people - often posted and hosted as 'serious' research or 'articles of truth' before I came to the conclusion that nutters have now got a public forum to air their psychopathic fantasies.
Ineed, I have now come to the conclusion that 99.9% of the internet is just utter horseh*t (bit like Telly really!)...or worse it's actually filling peoples heads with dangerous ideas that are just wrong!.
Don't get me wrong - it's amazing in parts - but generally mentalists have the loudest voices..don't they ?

Your not looking in the right places.... 99.9% of forums are full of sh.it but to be fair if you want to know something the internet is the most powerful tool you can ask for. Forget Libraries looking for the right book then flicking through looking for the right page, type what you want and your there.
Awsome tool. Dunno what we'd do without it.

In my 77 long years I can honestly say that I have never had so much fun
You get more geeks, more 'serious' **** geeks, on the internet than in any walk of life ................... we take the **** out of them when they venture outdoors, why not have the same fun on the internet

More sources for those prepared to analyse and think is a good thing.
This is a medium still in it's infancy but the fact that it enables people to talk across boundaries of all sorts will, imo, prove to be the real benefit.
At a simple level, look at how now a car model with problems can no longer be easily denied by a manufacturer. Owners with problems will soon be somewhere on the 'net discussing it and finding out that theirs is not a "one off, never seen that before".
Always a good and a bad side to technological advances.

Don't worry pete - I'm getting out more!! - as my extraordinary fuel expenditure this month is prooving!!
I think I'm now very careful about what sites and what articles I read - I probably only regularly visit about 5 sites now - most of those technically orientated...
Anything political or religious I'm coming to realise is just a pointless no-no..
and I can't imagine why Big Brother would give two farts to know what garbage I post up day in day out!!!
He'll only get drawn into being overly concerned about what oil he's using in his car - even if he did come and take a look!

The interents not as clever as you think. I find that unless you know exactly what your looking for its not that clever! Might sound silly but how many times have you done a search and not found any answers!!! Its got to the point now wheres theres so much crap floating about too.
If your looking for a popular subject/information it can be very useful.

The answer is so simple flynnstudio!
But does it not occur to you that if you just shut yourself away with your own self generated opinions, and never discuss them with others, that you will never see the wider picture or learn anything worthwhile about life. Communication is vital in this world of ours.
The discussions about just about anything you can think of here are educational and interesting even when it all gets a bit heated as it is bound to do.
Please define "mentalist" if you don't mind.

For techy nerdy stuff the internet is fantastic. It's amazing what kit has been hacked for new features etc., or what free stuff is out there.
I can't imagine work or home without the internet.

Well, overall very upbeat and postive - I'm impressed. I knew there was a reason I liked scoobynet...must be all that high octane action we get keeps us chilled and balanced...
Overall, I've deceided the internet is the forest in 'Little Red Riding Hood'. You can take the path to granma's and it's fairly clear cut - easy and safe and well signposted but if you wander off into the woods the wolf will have you...
Leslie, mentalist = Wolf!
