Default Car tax on line.. another well thought through crock!!

Here we go again,

you can now pay your car tax online...

as if.....

my sister decided she would do it, as she dosent always get time to get to the post office.

so she puts in her registation and insurance details.

and the sytem wont let her proceed as she hasnt entered her mot details,

sounds easy just get your mot cert and input the number.... except she dosn,t have an mot cert, as she dosnt need one...

is there a box or icon to go past this legal aplication.

nope.....

just a statement we cannot find any mot details for your car, you cannot proceed until your mot details are entered...

so until she gets an mot, she cant tax her car online...

fat lot of good that is then.

She better get an MOT then ...................

Doesn't matter if she needs one legally, or not - she needs one for the website!

I blame Labour myself!!

Better get it taxed though, as we all know, there's "only one place" they need to look now for untaxed cars.

Ah another lover of the desperate DVLA advert then !! We only say these things in the vain attempt that the gulliable people believe it and pay up !
Had a laugh with the DVLA as they sent me a demands for road tax for a car I sold three years ago and I had sent the form off. Only know it for a fact as I sold it to a friends and its properly registed in their name as I've seen the V5! Now how is that for an accurate database then "we know all un taxed cars" DVLA.
Utter incompetent idiots IMHO !

I used this facility a few days before Xmas. Although it told me I'd be getting my licence about 5 days hence, they actually arrived 2 days leter. I was well impressed. Shall use it all the time from now on. Saves queueing in the PO.

Taxed my car online as I had the new style mot. It was very easy and just asked the minimal amount of questions. Impressed for a govt type thing! However, clearly not everyone has found it easy going. good luck

Thumbs down

Richard: I agree wholeheartedly. Earlier this year I realised that the wife's car was three months out of tax. I could have SWORN I taxed it for a year, not six months, but the strange thing was, we got neither a reminder, NOR the promised £80 fine.

How's that for an up to date database?

I've got a mate that works for 'em and he said that its just all a big lie. The useless database isn't used and the only way he gets to know about untaxed cars is if they spot them or if they are reported

I've used it a number of times and it's been great. Nice computer printed tax disk instead of the illegible scrawl that the muppet at the post office counter produces.

Yes. All mine have been done online without MOT, as they're less than 3 years old.

Mine's a private plate and I managed to do it this time without an MOT certificate as the car is less than 3 years old.

Why is someone who works in the Post Office a muppet?

Les,

The someone I'd use locally is a muppet. Clearly not all post office staff are tarred with the same brush. Is that OK for you?

Had no problem doing my tax disc on line, despite having changed the plate part way through the year to one prefixed by R on a 2004 car. No demands for MOT details either.
Was quite impressed as all the Post Offices around here are always queuing out the door!!

Did mine at end December without MOT (1st MOT was due end Jan) no problems at all, and that was without SORN form as it was"lost in post"

When we went to do my wifes car back in July it came up as "no insurance" typical we though, damn useless website etc etc. Got insurance documents out and she suddenly realised that she hadn't told the insurance company about the private plate she fitted 11 months previously. Whoops !!!

Car tax on line.. another well thought through crock!!
Gotta laugh at this thread. Someone complains about the online tax thing and, bar one or two, nearly EVERYONE is happy with the service. It works and works well. Obviously not 100% but nothing is that good
