What can i use as a spirit level.....
putting up some shelves but dont have a spirit level.........fill up a cup of water to the brim?
Any suggestions please?

Clear 6 foot length of hose with water inside in a u shape. The height of the water on each side will always be level
Or a trip to B&Q!

how about the Mk I eyeball? Take reference points from ceiling or floor and away you go.

large 1/2 empty clear plastic coke/lemonade bottle tipped on side and marked each end at say 6 cms from "surface", if you see what I mean??
Or marble.

LOL The above can be dodgy if go by the levels the average house is built by (i.e all over the place).
My bodgit methods is a £1 pound coin or a marble/ball bearing/paintball, and see where it rolls. Or get the missus to hold it whilst I eye her, sorry, it up

Finnie's is easily the best. The water level works over many metres, too. And round corners.

protractor witha bit of string stuck to the middle and a weight on the end (usually blu-tac)
A bit late now, but may be helpful next time.
