Best holiday I have ever had, couldn't recommend the Watuma area of North Kenya enough. In particular the Turtle Bay Beach Club.
For anyone considering going I found in this area you are perfectly safe to go outside of the hotel to local villages, bars & nightclubs.
Best thing of all was coming back to the jessica simpson photos

They had a bloody earthquake when I was there in 1990. How inconsiderate is that. I immediately complained to the travel agent as she had not warned me that this had happened before in 1957.

The roads are OMG in places some of the pot holes are so big the roads divert arround them, and cars drive on verges and wrong way and anywhere they like to make progress. I saw some pot holes bigger than some of the cars using the roads. You certainly would not want to try and drive a scooby along them.
for fun here are some of my pics;

Bars and nightclubs?
We spent 10 days on horseback in the Masai Mara a couple of months ago and saw nobody else but wildlife for days on end - bliss
Every day was an adventure - charged by elephants, swam the horses across the (hippo laden) Mara river, got VERY close to lions, galloped with giraffe and galloped in the middle of something like 5-10,000 vildebeest - one guy had a Garmin GPS and clocked 38.4 mph on one gallop
Oh, and we did accidentally set the Mara alight in an incident involving a vulture and a flare pistol, but better not talk about that

i went in january/february this year courtesy of the British Army .
I had 3 weeks there; 1 in Nairobi, 1 in Nanuki (staying at the Mount Kenya Safari Club) and the last week was in the Mara/back at nairobi.
Cost me £80 all inclusive to go on a 3 day safari in the mara .
Wouldnt like to live there (have the option to get posted there for 2 years), a collegue got mugged at gunpoint outside his own home , but it was nice to visit all the same.
Went out in Nairobi on the pi55, went into a casino and a few bars & clubs. got a Taxi everywhere even if it was 100m .

I am InIt Sister, his partner. I was born and brought up in Kenya and NO, it is not a third world country, it is the corrupt governments that have made it so. It took me 30 years to make myself go back ...........all because I did not want to see it changed and it did hurt me to see it in such a state but things are on the up with the new Government and if you speak to the locals they do not wish to live in thsi way and most decent Kenyans abhor the bandits and thugs that leave an abiding memory in most people's minds.
It is a beautiful country and to me it will always be beautiful.

Cheers for comments all - it was a top holiday.
I've been very surprised speaking to people back home as most have no idea what Kenya has to offer, some didn't even realise there are beach resorts there
I have some of my photos here but someone will need to host them for me. PM if you can help.

When I explain it to them - they say do you live on trees, do you have electricity
