Dundee!
Hi, I'm moving up to Dundee and I was just wondering what areas people would recommend that I should stay in?
I have already been told to stay clear of Lochee. Are there other areas that I should be wary of?
Thanks in advance

you would be better asking where to stay.
There is a lot of regeneration going on in Dundee but the same old people are there if you know what I mean.
Depends where you are going to work and how much you have to spend.

Probably best to stay just outside Dundee. Depends what you are going to be doing and what you like doing at weekends / nights. I presume you will be working in Dundee. As PG said let us know where you are thinking of and we can let you know the +'s and -'s.
Edited to say I live about 20 mins outside Dundee and moved up here from near Leicester 6 years ago. If I can be of any help give me a shout.

Agree with the above, Cheaper & better living just outside Dundee & travelling in.
House prices rose on average 27% last year Highest rise in Scotland
I live 14 miles outside Dundee & work in the city, 15/20 mins commute each way

I would look at staying in Fife (just over the bridge) Newport, Wormit, Galdry or Tayport. or moving up to Broghty Ferry. Although there are some nice parts in Dundee.

Thank you for all your very informative posts...ahem just playing :P
As this will be my first home I am on an extremely tight budget of offers over 40k at the most.
Also, does anybody know which parts of the West End are *decent*?
Oh...and how about towards Baxter Park areas?
Thank you all sooo much

West End, Perth Road is good, but pretty expensive iirc, the universities are up there and its popular with students. Areas nearer the river are generally better than those further inland.
Baxter park terrace has some very nice flats overlooking the park and a historic building ( high school ). A lot of these are rental properties, Down side is parking is limited and not very far from stobswell ( not such a good area )
Try

for a good indication of prices in the area.

remember with Offers Over £XY,000 the purchase price could perhaps be 20% more than the figure you see.
I was told to market the house at offers over £79k, dont take any less than £85k and expect £95k.

You could perhaps rent first to get an idea of each are then make your choice ??

Hi,
I've looked at many of those places on tspc already, and I'll soon be getting some time off to go up and actually look at the propeties in the flesh. Ie, get viewings.
What about Molison Street? Is that any good? LOOKS and sounds ok so far, but will have to see!
thank you again

not too bad there. Close to the park. Morgan Academy a street or so across.
Cracking cycle shop just round the corner
this will give you an idea of what previous flats there have sold for recently.
