Thumbs down Portuguese beach "steaming"

Just to show that it's not only the UK that's full of thugs and chavs, the title refers not to a sauna, but a mass mugging by up to 500 teenagers on one of the most popular beaches outside Lisbon (difficult to say the UK equivalent - maybe Brighton beach, or Camber Sands). This is on a public holiday with temperatures over 30C - so there must have been a lot of people leaving their phones and wallets in bags while they walked around almost naked. Easy targets

That's what happens when you send our scum "on holiday" rather than to prison, they teach the locals how to act like them

Interesting to see that the ringleaders actually were given significant penalties by the magistrate.

I suppose this "steaming" will be the next thing for these dysfunctional louts to try on over here.

I sometimes wonder if this sort of thing is all part of the big plan. By allowing this anarchic behaviour to multiply and helping it on with 24 hour drinking, dropping educational standards to virtual illiteracy, encouraging the reduction of decent standards in life, and establishing their grossly PC ideals, they must believe that it will help them to keep their grip on power!

God help us all!

helping it on with 24 hour drinking
Sorry to sidetrack les, but are you against 24 hour drinking? If so, why?
Not interested in having a go, just curious.
Cheers,
astraboy.

24 hr drinking is all well and good if you are out having a good time and don't want to call it a night at 11pm. But it appears that more than a few go out with the sole purpose to get totally bladdered (seems to be more in the UK / English abroad) instead of going out, having a laugh with mates etc with a drink (far more civilised in France, Germany, Holland) etc Just IMHO of course

Its hard to say whether 24 hour drinking will help Astraboy. The example of what happens in holiday resorts where unlimited alcohol is available does not look good. Maybe its just that they are away from home and feel they have free licence to cause trouble.

I don't see how it can cause a problem with people who are just out on the town with no wish to make a nuisance of themselves and just want a quiet drink but the yobs who just want to be destructive and are totally irresponsible will doubtless take advantage of it. Its an attitude of mind that is inbred these days by the looks of it.The police and hospitals and judges are not happy about it and we can only wait and see now. I am glad I dont live in a town anyway.

I remember first hearing of 'steaming' from the Notting Hill Carnival during the Thatcher years. Not blaming Thatch, just saying it's nothing new and that the sky is probably not falling!
