Schapelle Corby found guilty
So the Indonesian court has found Corby guilty and gave her 20 years.
The Muslim cleric who murdered hundreds in the Bali bombings only got 18 months.
Great statement on the justice system in this country.
The case against Corby was full of holes.
Australians will be angry and rightly so about the verdict -but not surprised .The presiding judge had tried circa 500 cases and never gave a acquital ! Says everything.
If another disaster happens in Indonesia -the Aussies generosity won't be so forth coming I'm sure.
Bali as a destination will end for most Aussies and any westerner should think really hard before entering this country.

Ouch, that is an awfully long time for a little pot. 20 years !!!! She'll be old and saggy by the time she gets out, assuming the Aussie gov does not manage to get a deal.

I dont think the indonesian government will do a deal, there are loads of westerners where she is "lp Kerobokan Jail" (I guess thats where she is as theres only one jail in Bali as I know of) I think the Laughing bombers there as well. Cant see her coming out early either as the indonesian courts like to set examples with drug cases and wont change there minds. High profile cases like this scare most balinese in not going any where near drugs.
Plenty of other westerners in that jail will be there most of there life and just about every one is charged with drug offences. Cant say I would ever want to go there as I have heard terrible storys about it.

20 years for 4.1 kilos of dope. Wow.
And according to that report, they unzip the bag and there it is. She obviously just happily packed it in with her flippers and sunblock, on her way to a country which often gives the death sentence to drug traffickers.
Hmm...

The Indonesians had no choice but to convict her, and they gave here a lenient sentence. Amazing how stupid and small-minded some of the Australian response has been. (quickly becoming a mini-US)

That's a big old lump of grass, more of a turf really You'd have to be pretty stupid to pack that in on top of your boogie board knowing that it would be x-rayed. As Brendan says, hmm...
20 years, sheesh, that's harsh.

I'm sorry, but after all the publicity that's been given to the prosecution of fcukwitted bint's smuggling drugs in that part of the world over the past few years, the stupid cow could have had no reason whatsoever to think that the judiciary were going to believe her bullsh!t story.
At least now she's effectively out of the gene pool

The one thing I noticed, more than anything when coming through the airport in Jakarta a few weeks back, were the bloody great signs warning against drug smuggling and the penalties you face if you do. They really take a very dim view of it in Indonesia. You have got to be seriously stupid or desparate to even attempt it. Despite their dim view of drugs, they are not adverse to the odd back hander - the papers were full everyday about corruption trials - it's a way of life. I'm sure the Aussies can do a deal - if they want to.

Well it could quite easily have been the death penalty. It looks quite likely she was the unfortunate and unknowing participant in a baggage handlers drug trafficing scheme that went wrong.
A lot of people (up to 90% of Aussies apparently) who believe she's innocent and it's been sensationalised over here.

I'm paranoid about my luggage when going through customs as it is, but if I was visiting one of these countries, that has stiff penalties for drug trafficking, I think I'd be tempted to check my bags before going through customs.
How and when exactly did the supposed drug smuggling ring, who used baggage handlers to plant the drugs, expect to get their drugs back anyway?
