Registering a military vehicle
Does anyone know anything about registering an ex military vehicle for road use?
Would be especially grateful for any information if anyone has registered a FV432 for road use
Also where's the best place to get insurance for a military vehicle?

The enviro looney anti 4x4 brigade are gonna love you!
FV432 is a tracked vehicle - you won't be hugely popular even with rubber pads they are pretty heavy wearing on the road! They weigh a fair old whack too, which can cause problems...
I think you also will need special training (and licence?) to drive one. They are a little bit tricky to back up, rear visibility makes a lambo countach look easy to park up

The principal difference being that a Countach cant squash whatever gets in its way..... All of the Saracens seem to have been exported to America now; I'll have to settle for a Ferret if there are any left. You used to be able to buy them for well under £1,000 too.....

Get in touch with MVPS or INVICTA (Google) as they are well known Military Vehicle Preservation Societies. They will advise and invite you down to Beltring in Kent for the summer bash. Most of them are mad IMHO but nice mad if you know what I mean

Why mess with the ikkle ones, lol, you need Chieftains Loads more fun, granted not very practical but fun to drive. Speak to Bovvy tank museum, see if you can't pick up an old Challenger Driver trainer (Tank running gear but a perspex "cab" instead of a turret) for a few quid. 1200 bhp shifting 40 ton instead of 70, Now that IS fun
After that, it has to be a ferret. I passed my driving test in one of those (Only a B license though) and they are really quite nippy, Jag engine if my memory serves me right 6.3 ltr
Funny really I was Driving 70 ton tanks and armoured cars before I had even passed my A licence The Army Rocks

Thanks for the response.
Me and my brother have got a 432 and only drive it around a field at the moment but are looking to get it road registered for the summer. I think that the driver and the commander both need a H class licence to drive on the road.
GC8 you can still get saracens- there are some in a tender sale at L Jackson & co in the next week or two.

More safety than anything else as you have already said, you can see bugger all in reverse (Well almost) and also your intercom system needs to be working

GC8 - the saracens have a guide price of £2750 but not sure what they'll go for. Also got a hummer but thats got a guide price of £28000 and they some Centurion and Chieftain ARV's. should we club together and get one?
Gridlock mikey - does the intercom system need to be working for use on the road as we are still trying to get our system to work?
