Unhappy just got a NIP...

from Northampton police, it was definitely me driving but it is in a 30 and I NEVER speed in 30 limits, the speed recorded is 39 and the detection says camera. i have got one of my friends who is local to go and check the road (A508 Broadstreet) for speed limit signs because i obviously thought it was a 40 which is why i'd have been driving just below it, coupled with the fact that i had just left the hotel (time was 08:09), i was only driving a half a mile and the car was cold i'd not be nailing the thing

i guess i'm still stuffed though, any advice please...

Condolences mate. I've head stories about Northampton police being red hot when it comes to Scameras!! Was it a mobile trap, or did you just see the gatso and assume your speed was under the limit?

If the speed limt was not clearly posted you may be able to mount a defence for obvious reasons- you need to know what the limit is in order to adhere to it.

BUT

According to the highway code IIRC, if there you're on a single lane carraigeway that has road side lamps, the speed limit will be 30 unless signs indicate otherwise....in which case you might be stuffed I'm afraid. Sorry!

thats why i'm so sure it must have been either a dual carrigeway or similar becasue i really am **** about sticking to 30 and 40 limits; i like driving my car and listening to it warble even at low speeds

Is 39mph nailing it? Your car must have a very easy life

Ok, if it ws a dual carriageway and the limit was not clearly signposted get evidence now (video footage would be ideal), get your self over to Peepipo (sp?) to do some swotting up and make sure you consult a lawyer before making a decision on what to do.

Why give them an easy ride when there is no need?

Nice try but the fact it is a dual carriageway has nothing to do with it....and since the default speed is 30mph unless signed otherwise (in which case there should be repeater signs, unless national speed limit applies) means that they need only have a sign showing the change of speed limit wherever the 30 limit begins.....

Sorry pal, just pay up and be done with it...it counts for **** nowdays anyway unless you have 9 points already.

Don't pay up. At least make them produce the photo and calibration certificates etc etc. Have a look at Pepipoo. Even if they have got you, make them work for it.

Doesn't the photo have to contain at least one speed limit sign within the frame as a cast iron confirmation. But I suppose the default "30 unless otherwise stated" may exclude certain areas from this regulation

Good luck, give 'em Hell, don't just pay up roll over and die
