Default BEWARE M4 TOLLS - NICKED UNDER 70mph

Just opened my NIP...

CANT F'IN BELIEVE I'M GOING TO BE DONE - AND THAT FOR DOING LESS THAN 70 ON A BLOODY 3 LANE MOTORWAY THAT WAS BARREN OF CARS. I actually also failed to plough through the toll booths and managed to stop in time and pay using solely the power of my BRAIN - as I have done on the Severn tolls for the past 20years...

I'm incensed - particularly as that was the first day I had my new Road Angel, but they hadnt given me the 'key' to update its memory by download.

I got done going West. Are there cameras in the gantry there or something?

If I was hammering it up there I wouldnt mind, but I SO wasnt. *BEWARE GUYS*

Its a 50 mph limit for about half mile before the tolls and quarter mile after, very often a van on the bridge just before the tolls.

B@stards - Wales is a nightmare for cameras, often see a Police car with a gun when you come out of Wales on the bridge too.

Speed camera's are NOT a bad thing. It's "New Labour's" ill advised usage of positioning and quantity that is the problem.

They're here to stay. Whoever 'get's in' will keep them; they're just too good a money thing to lose.

Well, a Conservative government is going to be no worse than the current. They have also vented their annoyance at money making Speed camera positioning.

Might not be better, but can't be any worse.

My "X" goes in the educated blue box.

My x would never go in your 'blue box' LOL.

And all the things that affect the motorist in the pocket were generally introduced by the Tories Ken Clarke (fuel tax accelerator, for one) so don't be expecting any perks from them. They've no chance, anway, so c'est la vie.

No chance, oh I know that.

Believe me I know that too well. We live in a nation of thick f$cks remember, so voting Conservative for the "masses" is a big no no.

Somebody on here (I forget who) said "all generations have to endure a Labour government". I suppose it's innevitable.......just a damn shame it's gonna be 3 terms.

I think we all have to just endure.

It's all association. My GF associates Tories with good times through an affluent father/childhood and I have the direct opposite association.

Oi!!

I will be voting Conservative. I am a fundamentally Conservative person.

Somebody once said: "If you're not a socialist by the time you're 20 you've no heart. If you're not a Conservative by the time you're 40 you've no brain"

.......Well, nobody on here can question him!! So, from that I'll take it as a compliment....safe in the knowledge I've started early.

Yep its the same kind of extortion John - you parking in an empty business car park for a few mins on a Sat night an' all.

I've read a bit more and the cops say its a reaction to people storming towards the toll booths at a 100 fumbling for change... Well that certainly wasnt me - but there you are what the F does that matter; I was clearly a dangerous liability at 65. They must be RAKING it in with these ones.

They also hide up on a hidden little road on the embankment on the left as you approach the toll booths. We get at least one of our employees done on the toll approach every month.

The 50 limit whilst ridiculous is very well signed, there are big '50' signs on either side of the carraige way together with camera signs. Also the overhead gantry has a constant display reading ' new 50 mph limit at toll plaza ' for about a mile before
( unless there is another message to display )

I am very suprised you missed it.

A bit of a generalisation don't you think?

Nothing worse than intellectual snobbery IMHO, I see it every day unfortunately.

Same as council's attitude towards parking and their wardens, they will get you for cash any way they can. They hate motoring, gives too much freedom to us masses!

Thats correct. He was approaching the tolls which are in effect a roadblock.
If he missed the signs which are not only static but onthe overhead gantries as well then maybe he needs to either have an eyetest or re-assess his powers of observation as this limit must surely be one of the most easily noticable.

They park a van on the bridge behind the second gantry (last gantry before you stop) ...
Also on the left on the little layby thing- i do it reguarly and its pot luck as to whether they are there or not.
It is a bit ridiculous really, but there are plenty of signs on the approach warning you.

Still, last friday night the daft bint in the booth gave me 30 quid change for a 10 quid note, so i cant complain

If there were signs advising drivers that the speed limit is 50 then thats the speed limit. You were either intentionally breaking the law or you were not paying attention to the road signs. Either way you broke the law and got caught.Take the fine and the points like a man and stop bloody moaning!

If there were no signs anywhere to advise of the 50 zone then you have my sympathy and a case to take to court with you...

God bless speed cameras - i love the fact they raise funds to help run mother England by penalising those who cant drive within the parameters of the law - with a bit of luck keeping my taxes that little bit lower... Happy days...

I’m sure those that are sniggering here and pointing to the 50 signs never break a traffic rule in their life. They probably don’t even walk on the cracks in the pavement

Those that applaud this type of camera event should maybe consider forgiving us horrible transgressors for using a modicum of non nanny-state personal judgement about speed. However those with this type of intelligence-based approach to speed seemingly have NO PLACE in modern Britain. The sycophantic roll over and take it approach is clearly less hassle.

In all honesty I did NOT expect speed cameras on the motorway, which is why I particularly resent this revenue-raking absolute non-event. I now know better and hope a few others can avoid getting their chequebooks out too!

Forget about ME in this issue; that is irrelevant compared to the bigger picture (if you see one…)

Diesel,

I feel for you being nabbed when not driving unsafely. Speed cameras are oblivious to the actual road conditions - I recently got caught doing 80mph in 75mph zone at 1030pm on a clear road. Coughed up the minor fine without question, as I was guilty as charged. No points on my licence though, which makes a difference.

I think you are missing the point, nobody as I can see is saying they agree with the camera's or that they don't speed themselves ( me included ) TBH I think the limit is ridiculous.

However as I see it the general view is that everyone knows that the cameras are lurking everywhere ( especially in Wales ) and in particular the piece of road discussed is almost over stated as to what the limit is, with many signs making it quite clear.

Agreed cameras are wrong, sneaky, pointless, cash machines etc etc etc. but we all know they are there, so why be so surprised when you get nicked for doing 65 in a 50 ?

Yep. The Dutch are thinking about introducing them, but so far haven't got their act together to actually do so. What is a disgrace in the home of the Gatso is the fact that the Police are set REVENUE targets by the government.
