Question MP3 player.....which one?

It's the g/f's birthday in a couple of weeks. Thinking about getting her a MP3 player. The only ones I know of are the I-Pod and the I-pod I don't really want to go to Currys/Dixons/Comet etc, as they'll probably try to sell me a microwave by mistake

Thinking about paying up to 150.00, just want to get a good one, rather than one with loads of gadgets she'll probably not use.

Any suggestions gratefully received

Cheers

Afternoon mate

Bought mine from this guy http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...773022330&rd=1 on ebay!

Not the prettiest or smallest, but it is 40GB and only £158.50 delivered.

I'll bring it along to the Halfway House thursday if you'd like to have a closer look.

See you then.

Yeah, being a bit of a PC nerd I have a problem with all Mac gear. However, I recently bought a 40gB iPod, and it's great (apart from looking like something made by Armitage Shanks or Royal Doulton, that is...)

Before you get bombarded with what everyone else has bought What does she want out of it? How many songs does she have? Does she need any other features such as radio? compatibility etc.

She doesn't know she's getting it yet

She uses the tube and train quite a bit and may use it when she's at the gym or out running.
As regards the music, she has countless CD's, but I'm sure she would probably download stuff from the 'net.

I suppose a radio would be a good addition.

Hope that helps a bit

No tuner/radio on the iPods. They don't play all the formats either.
You need new headphones if you get an iPod, a) because the std ones aren't very good if you're into music and b) they make it easier for muggers to establish whose got an iPod in their pocket.

I'm not anti iPod either (I bought a 60GB myself) but I like people to aware that there are other good products out there that may suit you requirements as well or better

I've just got a Creative Zen Micro(silver), in my opinion this pisses on an ipod both in sound and functionality. Plays MP3 WMA and wave. It is only 5gb(Ive got 800 tracks on mine in various formats so far) but does have an FM tuner if you need that. Can also be used as a removable hard drive for files ETC, and a vioce recorder. Nice looking item that you can get in many colours. Also has a calander, sleep timer function, organiser. Also very small and easily slipped it your pocket.

Cost me £139.99 from Ritcher Sounds, think the price has gone UP now though.

iPods have become the 'must have' item for muggers, the white headphones are a dead give away. If you do buy an iPod then buy some other headphones that are not white.

Thanks for the advice

As regards the headphones, I've just been reading What Hi-Fi and they recommend you ditch the cans straight away as they're cr@p!!!

Mind you, they've also done a test on some speakers, they're nearly 12 grand FFS

I've had a 20GB Creative Jukebox for 3-4 years. Not as good looking as an IPOD but have used it for backp and MP3's, sound is OK but as its older its well bulky.

I also own a Creative Jukebox 10GB, this thing has been so reliable( I even dropped it onto a concrete floor by accident, no damage done). It gets used most days in conjunction with my HiFi, I have around 1600 songs on it so I no longer use my CD's , just switch the JB on and away you go - 1600 songs all playing at random. It is running on a mains adaptor and its bulk and weight was the reason for buying the Zen Micro, did'nt want to lug the thing around with me on holiday, and the extra 4x AA batteries needed for it-plus it looks very uncool now-more like a personal CD player than an MP3 player.

How do you enjoy life with the most oversensitive control button in the world.....even on minimum sensitivity ????

Would do my head in

20gb ipod suits my needs perfectly

I've just bought the new sony network walkman 20gig player. looks good, but haven't had much chance to play with it yet.

the reason I went for the sony is the battery life, which is quoted at circa 30 hours compared with the ipods 20 or so.

eldest daughter has the ipod mini but its pink
