new mstation cannot find my mp3's
#1
I have just got it and have loaded some mp3's to it. (They are not recorded using real jukebox). I still get the empty hard disk message. Is there something funny about the types of mp3's it will recognise. eg do they have to be 128k kb only, etc. I have tried 64kb and 128kb. ?????

Not too sure about the connection type to the PC, but the mStation (or at least the one I have) recognises every MP3 I've thrown at it (that's fixed as well as variable bit-rate, 64-512Kb/s).
Er, are you sure it's going to the right drive? Stupid question, but you never know! Can't think of anything else at the moment!

I can play them on my pc even though they are on the mstation, and have since learnt that the mstation will take almost any bit size. I thing the hard drive inside the mstation may have its partition table corupted or something. It can be seen sometimes through the usb connection but if I use the PC docking bay my windows XP does not assign it a drive letter even though it appears in device manager.
Has anyone formatted their mstation hard drive. If I do that what do I have to do to start over again (what files do I need ??
thanks for the interest so far.

XP won't necessarily assign a drive letter - it doesn't need one in order to be able to 'see' (or make use of) it.
You need to go into, umm, can't remember what they're calling it this time round & this PC isn't an XP one... well, there's 'disk management' in 'computer management' in the control panel (administrative section on the full or 'old fashioned' panel), where if you go into (and be careful!) you should be able to see the mStation drive - right-click on the bar & click on 'assign drive letter'. Sorry - this is all from memory & bits might be not quite right - or at least the names!
Anyway, that should give you a drive letter. Which is a start...

Thanks for the all the info. After trying everything I had a look at the mstation using fdisk and it came up as a non dos disk. So I reformated it (using win 98 fdisk) and now everything is AOK. Dont know why my mstation should have been a non dos disk. Perhaps it was formatted using WIn XP which apparently the mstation does not like. So watch out for that should you be upgrading in the future.
For everyones info (the regulars will know this already) The mstation is also know as the Neo car jukebox in America and has a forum dedicated to it. Just search in google.
Oh and I got mine from 6th planet who were fine to do with. On the subject of the usb version .. it is tempermental and only works some times. The home console is worth getting though.
cheers.
