Kenwood 6090R answers please
#1
Seriously considering a Kenwood 6090R CD tuner, but have a few questions I can't work even after looking at loads of ICE web sites
1) what MP3 bit rates does it support?
2) does it play ordinary CDs as well?
3) can it drive a CD changer?
4) if yes, are there any CD changers that support MP3 - I'm confused about this bit...is there such a thing as a MP3 changer, or will any (Kenwood) changer work OK?? (I note that the 6090 never seems to be offered as a package with a changer)
5) is it any good ? (!)
6) It seems as its still fairly unique even though it also seems to have been around a bit. Will Kenwwod be making MP3 a feature of the higher spec models (7090 etc etc) soon?
7) Any other makes around at a similar price (like £231 inc. VAT at

GO to qxl to get one I got the top of the range kenwood minidisc player for £200.00 through a company called tecklogic that was selling loads of kenwood stuff on QXL. Price included warranty and delivery in two days

1) Erm, dunno but VBR is definitely supported
2) Yes
3) Yes
4) Any changer will work, but the only way you can play MP3s is in the in-dash cd slot. There are no MP3 cd-changers yet
5) All who have it seem to like it
6) It's only around 8 months since the first units rolled through, but given the success I'd say that it can be assumed that more, higher end units, will be coming.
7) Erm... This one is currently cornering the market.
Hope this helps,
Nick.

You can get an MP3 jukebox. It is made by Creative Labs, costs approx £249 spec is as follows (from memory):
6GB hard disk, five minute buffer on playback, 110 hours of music, line in and line out
It is about the size of the old portable discman units.
May be of interest.

I bought one in Tottenham Court Road yesterday - and got it for £255 inc. (on Visa too!) against the sticker pice of 279.99...just stood my ground and said that was all I would pay!
..cost about £14 more than mcs-direct (they charge £10 delivery), but got the 'free' theft insurance that I don't think you get with mcs and I got it there and then
I always phone mcs to check that they have stock and end up ordering on the phone. One time I got cheaper than the web price, and for the last set of speakers they quoted more than the web price, but agreed the web price when I pointed out the difference
Installing tonight - will report back...
Edit: Damn! Can't report back, 'cos I need an adaptor from the P1 connector to the std ISO connector on the 6090. So how come my MY00 had an ISO connector, but the P1 hasn't...too japanese I suppose?
