Default collision with italian lorry driver...

my sister had an accident last week driving home to manchester on the motorway i believe, at about 40mph in a speed restricted zone where there are roadworks under way. a lorry driver changed lanes, not noticing that she was in her blind spot and hit her rear neaside quarter, then front nearside quarter before coming to a halt. the info i have about the accident is all second hand and i didn't want to hassle her too much as she's obviously still very shaken up.

they were both very shocked, the police came along and did what they do in these circumstances and a guy from the highways agency helped my sister take the details he thought she would require for insurance purposes. the car is a saxo, insured with citroen insurance and it turns out that as she doesn't have the green card number for the driver's insurance, she can't get a hire car.

does anyone know how she can get hold of this information? i have some info on the driver, phone number etc (my sister doesn't speak italian and nor does anyone else in our family, apart from ordering beer, food etc ), what i assume is the transport company's name (although can't find them on the web), registration number and insurance policy number.

i would have assumed that the police would have the green card info, in which case my sister could call them and ask...or if the vehicle has been involved in an accident in this country before, that the registration would be noted somewhere on an insurer's record system.

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

What's the name of the Itallian Operator (or at least that you think is the operator) I may be able to find something out for you from that end.

Hope it wasn't the same Italian truck I was following a week ago from Northampton to Peterborough. What a plonker ! He was all over the road , trying to overtake on very narrow roads , Being left hand drive he had no chance but was so impatient. Sorry I can't recall the company name, I was giving him as much room as possible because I was anticipating a head on collision in front of me at any moment.
I hope your sis gets the info she needs.

You still get better visibility in a left hooker artic than you do in a right hand drive car - you are looking over the top of the cars in front and often over hedges and such like that you can't see over in a car. Anyway the Itallians all drive like nutters anyway

Sure, but you seemed to be suggesting that being a left hooker was going to cause him some issues in overtaking. I was explaining that in a truck, that makes little difference, the bigger issue is likely to be 38 Tonne, 13.6 metre trailer attached to your ****

think she's starting to ask the right people now thanks. i put her in touch with a friend from school who was an english teacher in italy for a while, so hopefully he'll be able to assist, at least with the language!

yes, the visibility issue is the same as driving one of our cars over there! ..helps to have a passenger who can see past the car in front!

No it's OK, was just wondering if it was one of the many Itallian hauliers that I had dealings with, most actually speak bloody good English (the office guys). It isn't one I know, can't promise anything, but I'll ask about.
