Default Dry Ski Slopes......... Any good (Boarding)

After doing five winter holidys in a row I'm getting to the stage with my Boarding where I need more practice at really hurting myself with some style

The dry slope in Aberdeen has been re-furbished with the new snowflex ( No holes to get your thumbs stuck in ) and has a good few kickers and hips to play on.

I just wanted to know how many people use a dryslope in the summer months and wether or not you use your own board or ski's. I read somewhere people are spraying the bottom of boards with WD40 to use on dry slopes

Forget WD40 (it will ultimately damage the base).... get some Mr Sheen or any other good quality furniture polish and spray some on the base/wipe over entire surface (don't polish off)... makes a huge difference!

My finger still gets painful in the cold thanks to a dry slope incident.
Managed to stick it under the matting at reasonable speed and snap it at the knuckle.
Now use the snow dome in Milton Keynes, much safer!

was that on the mating type or the surface with the big holes in it ? I'm shocked that I'd need to spray my board with MR Sheen

I agree with Russ ................i thought i was reasonably progressing ..( and was enjoying snowboarding ) having gone several times on/of piste snow. Then a friend got a job teaching people on a dry ski-slope ( him being experienced snowboarder) ...........and i was f#cked couldnt do anything........maybe he was teaching all the correct techniques, but it put me right off......

I used to live in Rossendale Lancs and skiid/raced at Ski Rossendale for some years.... The one thing you will find with a dry slope is that if you get good on matting you will be great on snow.... snow is sooooo easy compared to plastic......

Dry slopes aren't perfect but they sure beat having to make do with 1 or 2 weeks a year on snow!!!! (Unless of course you are one of the lucky ones who live round the corner from a snow dome!!!)

Would not go near a dry slope!! Kickers you say? And when you fall over, ouch!

What about using wax on your board?

If you've only learnt on Snow, then trying dry ski slopes will take a bit of getting use to.

It does hurt, I used to go every week when I was younger. Used to do the jumps, but came off once, hand got caught on the surface and my wrist went snap. Put me off dry ski slopes for life.

Its best to use wax on the board, though it will be slow at first, after a few runs, the wax will have worn down to an optimum level and the board will glide alot smoother.

If you can, try going to an indoor ski slpoe that uses real snow.

Snowdome is a good 8 hrs away for me so that just isn't an option.

So Dry ski slope looks like a no no then ?

What's the differance between the wax that's on the board for snow and waxing for a slope ?

What about Xscape nr Pontefract/Leeds? That's close enough that you could make a day of it. Real snow indoors just like MK, only newer

Apparently Justin Timberlake went there last year

If I'd have known I'd have gone down and shouted encouragement at him.. lol
