Very very silly indeed!

Obviously no-one at the school realises that you could simply cause serious harm to someone with a pencil. Nothing like a sharp pencil in the eye or throat!

Next they'll be banning belts, for fear that bullied kids will hang themselves in the toilets with them!

or tables and chairs cause you could throw them at someone, or feet and legs because you can kick someone, or practically everything

I presume you'll still be able to bring in a compass, as shown holding a sharp pencil in the piccie below. Or a pair of scissors. Both much safer than a letter opener.
