Default Best chemical for cleaning a filthy cooker...

I have a cooker that tenants have left in an appalling state.....

What is the best chemical to use to degrease/de-gunge it?...Ive tried the usual Mr Muscle type cleaners but they havnt shifted all of it........I dont fancy having to buy the new tenants a new cooker...cos they'll probablyend up trashing it too!

Ditto the Oven cleaning cpy if yours is very dirty. You can get a single oven done for £20-25. If you do it yourself its £4 for oven cleaner and then some hard graft - possible several goes if its really dirty. Even then you wont get it as clean at they can.

Loads of sodium hydroxide based oven cleaner, a scotchbrite pad and some hard work. Leave the cleaner on for half an hour or so each time, scrub furiously with scotchbrite (not on shiny surfaces unless you want them to go matt )

Surely it doesn't have to be good as new for tenants. Like you say, they won't look after it anyway!

I used a drill and wire drill brush bit to get the burnt stuff of the bottom of my oven. It worked a treat and did not take the coating of the bottom of the oven.

I've just done one! - Tried all the usual like you did

In desperation used swarfega Patio & drive cleaner - degreaser stuff, on painted surfaces - not instant, but got results...

& Tescos soapy wire wool stuff on the wire shelf things... Came up a treat!

Still haven't got rid of the brown gunge on the bottom of the oven - Swarfega and a paint scrapper got rid of the thicker stuff...

Cheers

Mick

There's some stuff called 'Strike' around Liverpool - haven't seen it anywhere else - which'll do the trick Shifts most things anyway.

Biological washing powder and hot soapy water is pretty good. Need to leave it for a bit (20 mins). Got the tip from Kim and Agie

Vinegar, Coca Cola or Baking Soda are all good degreasers.
