If you've patented it already (if not, you should), you can discuss it with anyone. Just make sure you get them to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) as well before telling them too much. That way, you are protected legally too from them telling anyone else about it.

Trying to get financial help is very hard. Look at James Dyson and others.
Search government websites esp. DTI and contact your local Chamber of Commerce.
There is lots of info out there but companies and money to develop products can be hard to locate.
Your really hard work starts now!
Good luck.

Will do.... It's doing the rounds at the "Happy Pastures" retirement home at present- getting passed from room to room, standing in a jug of savlon. I think what's taking so long is that the old dears are doing brass-rubbings of the opening times.

Put dated plans and reports, etc. in an envelope and send it registered post to yourself. When it arrives stash it in a safe place, then open it when the inevitible intellectual property rights court case comes about !

Even if you do get a patent and someone copies it, it doesnt mean you win in court. If the item is deemed as being ''obvious'' (ie anyone could have thought of it and not inovative enough) then you dont win. Cost my company a few quid and more a couple of years ago to find that out the hard way.

Try a university, mine would do , often they'd undertake work and development for a share in the patent. Seriously could save you a lot of expense if it's no good and if it's a winner a share of a lot is better than a share of **** all cos you can't afford to get it off the ground.
