The issue is the duty free limit. IIRC you can legally bring in about £250 of stuff. If you get caught bringing more expect to pay a lot of tax or loose it.

Mate of mine just got a Canon 20D, lens and 2GB memory for a bit over 1000 USD, pretty much half the price it is here. As said, it's your gamble going through Customs.

No worries on the iPod just plug a UK lead into the power adaptor.

With the current exchange rate, pretty much everything is cheaper. I'm over there at the end of the month and will be spending my money on cheap beer and women.

only difference with american ipods is they have no volume restriction unlike uk ones, and they come with a 1 year worldwide warranty, they charge through firewire so no lead hassles, if u need to charge from mains just plug american plug into shaver adapter

the limit for bringing goods back is £145, so ur going to go over may as well do it properly, when we flew back in dec to manchester there was 1 customs guy not checking anyone, same as the year before.

Not that I've ever done this, but if you do buy something like a camera - having all the documentation is a dead giveaway - post all of paperwork (& receipt) back to a mate and dispose of the box.

I bought 2K worth of Canon digital camera gear when I went last March. I had my existing camera and bag with me so put the new camera and bits in that then anything I didn't need for a week or so I placed back in the box. I then went down to hotel reception and asked them to ship it to the UK. I put my name as the sender and receiver on the documentation and said it was worth about $20. I received the package 2 days after getting home

All other receipts and tags for clothes were binned. If you are going with the missus and she is into latest shoe fashions. Get a pair of Frye boots out there. They are fecking £200+ here!

It's easier than that. Just remove the American plug from the adaptor - as designed - and plug in a standard power lead, bit smaller than a kettle lead, I use one that came with some Sony equipment.
