Where to go on Holiday?
Anyone been on any nice holidays recently, well in the last year or so?
Me and the girl friend are trying to find somewhere to go on hol but as of yet haven't come across anywhere that really takes our fancy.
Both of us wouldn't mind going to Las Vegas for a few days but then no where else really appeals to us after there, and if we go there we would probably have to go on a tour type thing were you don't really get any time to yourselves and probably end up going to places of non interest.
Somewhere a bit different would be nice? Any recommendations?

I went to Austin Texas
absolutely brilliant loads to do and not too commercialised like Florida.
Hung out in some country bars and felt like Philo Beddoe (without the brawling)
i loved it

last year for me was 1 week in cyprus - usual med ****e, and a week on the avon in a narrowboat.
the boat won hands down, there are some really wide quiet stretches, chugging along drinking, toking, I also mastered the art of nipping below decks for a quick portion with the throttle on dead slow - power **** - few hairy moments as you come back up to find yourself on a collision course with the trees.

Penang, Malaysia - Mutiara Beach hotel in Batu Ferenghi. Absolutely great....
Failing that, Langkawi, Malaysia - ideally the Datai but it's very expensive.
There are numerous upsides of Malaysia - beautiful place, lovely people, great hotels, very luxurious, comparatively cheap (everything - we had a chauffeur driven Merc for about 50 quid a day all in), Penang has wonderful food. Lots of interesting things to see and do - Penang has more going on, Langkawi is significantly quieter and more laid-back.
Both Penang and Langkawi were slightly affected by the Tsunami - but not enough to destroy or close the hotels. May be a bit messy in Langkawi for a few weeks....
The only down-side is the 14hr flight. Fortunately Malaysian now fly direct from Heathrow to Langkawi - which helps.
I'd go to Malaysia every year on holiday if it weren't for the flight..... bloody wonderful time had by all. A+++++++++++++++ as they say on Ebay.

What's the bbudget, how far away, how long do you want to be travelling for??
How long do you want to be gone for.
Long haul/ long stay then I'd say New Zealand or Oz.

Forget the Datai on Langkawi then, but try the neighbouring 5* hotel - VERY nice indeed:

Or, on Penang, another 5* job that I've stayed at which is a superb hotel:

All of it mate....
Fortunately for Malayisa, Indonesia got in the way of the bulk of the tsunami.... I think a few hotels had a few sandy swimming pools, but that was about it.
They'll be some good deals right now as well....

St Tropez or the Dordogne. I'd go back to St Tropez at the drop of a hat. Excursions to Monaco, Nice etc....

Vegas is good,
a bit wierd, but definitely worth the trip.
Most of the maldives open for business, likely to be some good deals around, add on a stopover in Dubai on the way back
Barcelona is a fantastic place.
Seychelles prob out of budget - went last year, 16 hours on a plane, BA economy class, not fun at all. Holiday fantastic, flight not.
