I've had a Makita 6095D for c.7 years & it's been faultless. I wanted to upgrade & spoke to Chippie mate for advice, he warned me off Elu/Dewalt as they seem to be the poor realtion at the mo & aren't holding up well.
Makita all the way.

Thumbs up

When I was at wifey's school last year, they were just finishing off the school buildings that had been rebuilt. All the tradesmen were using DeWalt stuff.

I have an 18V hammer drill and it's a lovely bit of kit.

Build quality on the DeWalt stuff we've had at work leaves a lot to be desired. We had a couple of their 18v screwguns but they literally just fell to bits. The Makita stuff is pretty well built and reliable (more so than DeWalt in my experience), and also Bosch make good power tools as well.

I can't fault my Makita cordless drill, though i've not tried Dewalt myself i've heard they're a bit over rated.

All my dewalt stuff has been great, i find the makita drills/cordless handles a bit uncomfortable but the quality of the stuff is very good and you seem to get the same quality as dewalt for less money.
Try before you buy, I've used makita, ryobi, hitachi, bosch, dewalt etc etc and some are really uncomfortable to use, eg early makitas gave me blisters from the forward/reverse switch

Got to say, the best cordless stuff i've used is Festo stuff but that is mega bucks

I have a DeWalt 18v hammer drill. I've had it for about six years. I've eventually had to get new batteries but the motor is still as ridiculously powerful as it ever was! The build quality in the handle (particularly the junction between the soft rubber handgrip and the rest of the tool) is a bit weak, especially when compared to the indestructible feel of the Makita plastics, but the engineering part of the tool has been excellent.

I've always found that Milwaukee tools have been the best, closely followed by Makita (i've had a Makita battery drill for nearly 15 years now, 7 of which it was used everyday on site)

Yeah there's a distributor near me. Look very nice but very expensive.
Makita I think is very good across the whole range but dewalt you've got to pick and choose. Bought a Dewalt percussion drill from screwfix. The build quality was awful. Wouldn't have lasted a month. Went straight back. Bought a Dewalt 7.2V angled scewdriver and it's fantastic can be used as a drill and has even gone through steel lintles with the appropriate drill bit.
