Sky Plus is cool
Hello
Father Christmas managed to bring me Sky Plus, and wow it's amazing.
Looking through the listings and just pressing record and pausing live television (well, all the things the adverts say!) and it just works smoothly.
Now to upgrade the hard disk ..
Steve.

Hello
Well, with two very young and active children my wife and I don't manage to watch anything really. Hence it's great to have a quick scan and record things. But then, of course, we can't actually manage to watch it all...
So after a week or so, it's about 50% used (10 hours). It should only take a few minutes to upgrade the drive to a 160gb one.

Hello
It's a standard hard drive, no operating system.
Have a read here: http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/...d.php?t=156344

Think sky plus is the way forward, but a word of caution. We are on our third box in one year and that has now brocken 6 weeks after the guarentee ran out. This is not a one off both my next door neighbor(2 boxes) and my father (2boxes) have had problems. I am writing to sky to see if they are willing to help, they should.

Hi,
sorry to hijack this somewhat slightly but can you buy a Sky + box outright ? ie. not pay the extra £25/month for it ? Was looking at buying a DVD recorder with HD drive but the Sky+ does the job a whole lot better I think but without the ability to record to DVD/CD etc.
Thanks, Jai

Hello
I bought the Sky+ box "outright": In that I paid £199 from an independent retailer.
I still have to pay Sky £35 a month to receive all the television programmes though.

I have just bought a Philips DVD recorder with 80GB hard drive with Tv guide plus, just like Sky + but without the subs, maybe not as good as sky +,but i pay no extra and can still transfer all programs to disk instead of deleting them.just my opinion .

If you'd like to give Sky another £10 per month, then you can keep your existing box active.

Cheers Steve but....................
Does that mean that my kids can watch what they want to watch upstairs on the existing sky box and me and the missus can watch something different on the "new" Sky + box downstairs.
So all i would pay is £200.00 for the Sky + and an extra £10 per month for the other box to remain active.
