Unhappy Serious topic - Health advice please!

OK everyone here go's

I've been reading scoobynet for quite a bit of time now, but this
is the first time that i'm posting...seeing as though ur all such a nice
bunch!

OK, hmmm...

I really am not feeling well and I realise now it's been like this for probably
like the last 5/6 years or so (though not as bad as the past 12 month's)

Basically I'm feeling tired all the time, and passing urine too often, and also feeling dizzy on occasion's also (which worries me the most). Also because I'm passing urine too often, it mean's I have to drink more water, to stop myself from dehydrating.
The dizziness and tiredness only started over the past year, but now that I come to think of it, the passing of urine too often, has been going on for much longer....but on a much lesser scale.

Over the last year I have lost about a stone in weight...

I've been to see my GP, and I told him all the above, and the first thing he
said was that I might be diabetic (I was thinking the same also, coz my symptoms suggested this). He took some blood and urine sample, to be sent off...was told to get back in touch after a few days for the result's.

Anyway, when the results came back (I don't really know what they actually check for) I was told that they didn't find anything in the blood or urine to diagnose me with anything, and that there is nothing much else they can
do to help. (the nurse suggested that it might be work related, but this is definately NOT the case)

I REALLY can't understand what's causing this, I don't have any major problem's in my life, I try to live a healthy life, never smoked, taken drug's or even alcohol. I like my job, and am happy with my life.

Oh, and i'm male, 27 years old, about 5'11 and now weigh about 75kg

My eating and sleeping is fine, apart from having to get up during the night
to take a leak. Like just now, which made me decide to post this on here!

I think's that everything!

So, ANY advice will be MUCH APPRECIATED!

Thanks everyone!

you've totally described the exact symptoms of diabetes. they should have been checking for excess glucose in your urine. it IS possible that they could have messed this up somehow.

i would recommend either going for a second opinion elsewhere and let them do some tests, and/or doing a home test to check your glucose levels in your urine.

the other thing it sounds like (aside from the weight loss) is pregnancy. altho i THINK we can rule that one out on the basis that you're male

Just wondering if it is worth speaking to the NHS direct helpline. I tried them once and they were very useful. Youcould tell hem exactly what has happenend to date and they should be able to give you the right type of advice.

Pearsonally, I would not trust a load of grease monkeys for medical advice. We will probably advice you to use Optimax instead of regular super plus unleaded.........

Good luck!

Yeah, I was thinking diabetes by time I got to line 2 in your main paragraph!

How did they do the blood test? Was it a "fasting" blood test where you take nothing but water for 12 hours preceeding the test?

Wink

I'd give drugs and alcohol a go.

You may still feel tired and still frequent the loo, but at least you'll be having a good time inbetween

I'd get a 2nd opinion as said before. If it still says negative for diabeties, then demand that they explore other avenues. Don't get palmed off with 'theres nothing we can do'

Good luck

Don't some of the main stream chemists offer a diabetes check now, Boots for example? DL (mildly diabetic, and really angry that I wasn't diagnosed with the problem well before it set in as it now caused some permanent damage )

You might be better off buying a blood meter yourself and doing a few tests at different times.. you can get them in Boots for less than £15 and they usually include 10 test strips...

It MIGHT be Type II diabetes.....have they considered that? Its much harder to spot than insulin-dependant Type I diabetes I believe. Type II is commonly regarded as 'old mans' diabetes and is treated with tablets. With Type II diabetes the pancreas still makes insulin but it isnt released properly; this is opposed to Type I where the pancreas stops making the hormone altogether and it has to be replaced. Both of my grand fathers suffered from Type II and it took years in both cases for it to be diagnosed correctly. A colleague at work was recently diagnosed; after suffering symptoms similar to yours, along with a very slowly healing cut; he's far from old too, in his mid thirties.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, MUCH appreciated!

From everyone's advice, i'm definitley going to get back to my doc, and tell
him to investigate further.

Homerjunior : Will give the NHS directline a call also!, thank's for that

Ajm : No they didn't mention any fasting, just gave me an appointment

David lock : Will check about the test's, and if you don't mind me asking, what
kind of permanent damage has it caused?

Rob Walker : Thank's for the link!

Oh, and if all else fail's "Jay m a", thanks for your tip!, I might just take
it up! hahah!

just a suggestion, but invest in a check up at a BUPA hospital, they will give you a complete once over and it will be worth the money, even if they dont find anything it will bring piece of mind. Money well spent ..........
