Question Sky+

I am interested in getting Sky+, but as an existing Sky customer I don't get the cheap deal off the website. It's going to be 149 for the unit and then another 60 quid to install, as I don't want my original box putting in another room for 10 pounds a month (which make installation free). I seem to recall a few people mentioning they'd got money off the 149 (or installation or both) by moaning about the new comers deal. What's the cheapest existing Sky people have got Sky+ for, and how did you manage it?

Thanks,

Steve

I got mine for £99 about 1.5 years ago. Was well worth, I'm loving it!

Don't think i'd pay £500 though, £350 tops I reckon.

Ring them up and say you want sky Plus, when they quote the install price they will say it is for new customers. Tell them you think it is disgusting they differentiate between new and existing customers and ask to be put through to the cancellations department as you wish to cancel your whole sky package on principal. Once through to cancelations explain the same thing again and they will offer free install if you do not cancel

A few of us have done this at work and have yet to fail. Not bad saving £60 for 5 mins work.

Thanks Scooby-doo, I'll give that a try.

Tiggs - I'm not moaning, or stating it's not worth 210 pounds, just asking if people had managed to get the new customers deal or not as existing customers. I'm not rich enough that saving 110 pounds by asking a question doesn't appeal to me.

I went to my local TV shop, bought the box and did my own fitting:
- change the LNB for the one supplied with the box
- run an extra cable from the dish to the sky+ box (easy in my case)
- connect it all up
- call Sky (the shop gave me the special number) saying that you are the subscriber and your previous box has blown up (mine had) and there is no engineer - so they get you to tell them some numbers off the menu and set the subscription up at their end..you can't do any recording until then

Easy, in my case...YMMV!

I tried the old 'I'll cancel my subscription' routine and all that happened is they called my bluff and said alright then when do you want to cancel it for ?

I backed off and still trying to decide what to do, as I have a difficult installation.

They may bluff but they are desperate for new customers and they won't let you leave for £60. Cancel with the 30 days notice go out on day 1 once you have been cut off and sign up again in a shop

I've spoken to Sky directly and they say you don't have to go with one of their offers. I was told I could go to any shop, buy a Sky+ box, fit the cables myself then just call up and order a subscription. Since I subscribe to two premium Sky channels already the subscription would be free.

As the new Sky+ box is out
(http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/satellite/skyplus/)
I am sure they will do a deal on the 'old' box.
