payment via bank transfer
Sold an item on ebay today for about £12.00 and the buyer has sent me this email... Do you think it looks dodgy??
Hi Matthew,
Thanks for allowing me to bid on your item, It would be great if I could send you money by bank transfer, I could have the money in your account just after 12:00 tonight; and you could send me the goods tomorrow. If this is not acceptable I could send you postal orders, although this would cost me an extra £5.00 including recorded delivery. If you would allow bank transfer, please email me back with your sort code and account number. You can contact me regardless on my mobile 07791 ****** or on my home phone 01543 ******.
Kind Regards,
Craig Mckie

looks perfectly normal, to do a bank transfer all someone needs is your sort code and acct number which is all hes asking for. Although it might not show up in your acct for a while.

It's the way forward.
As ChrisB said, all that info's on the cheque anyway. I always request payment this way on eBay and it's amazing how many people say "Not f'ing likely" when I offer to pay this way
Cheers

I had a similar request last week. It is the first time anyone has asked to pay this way. I must admit that I refused it, purely my ignorance, but best to be safe than sorry.

better safe than sorry? whats safer than money paid direct to your account? did you request securor delivery of cash only with SWAT on standby?

If you do a Bank Transfer your transferring funds directly into an account. It's not like the cr@p BACS system that takes up to 8 working days
It gaurantees the person paying has sufficient funds (otherwise it just won't transfer) and the amount appears in the target account almost immediately.
The only negative thing is the person then has your money, so if they don't send the goods you have little comeback unless you take them through the small claims courts. That's no concearn of yours in this case, so go for it.

Was just curious as to whether anyone can do anything fraudulant with those details... bearing in mind that according to the news, people who raid your rubbish for these details seem to be able to sell it on the black market..

As already mentioned it's no different to sending a cheque which also has your account number and sort code on it!
All they can do with these details is pay money into your account

just a tip...there is no harm in putting a black felt tip line through your account details on your cheques when you send them out...many banks actually recommend you do this (or tear that bit of the cheque off and eat it)
