R/C Helicoptors
anyone into them???
just took my raptor 30 out for its 2nd run today and the high wind made it, shall we say, interesting.
i can usually spend all day out with radio controlled gear, but the concentration needed when flying these things, physically drains me, so i limit it to about 2 x 15 minute sessions, with a cup of char and *** in between.
i'm sure it will get easier, but compared with nitro cars, this is a whole new ball game.
i post up the crash pics in due course!!! LOL
any horror stories/experiences on here??

Just took my petrol heli back to the model shop (I never used it). But I have a micro heli (century hummingbird) which is quite smart. I've upgraded a few things ie carbon rotor blades, head stiffner, head collar etc and it flies nice.
I can fly it all day long tail in, and can fly around (as long as I walk behind), trouble I have is nose in. Can take off nose in, but hovering nose in is difficult for me. I haven't practiced much to be fair.
I posted a vid clip of mine a while back.

I fly them... what sort of level are you at?
Once your comfortable at actually flying them about it becomes easy to run through a tank of fuel, initally when just trying to hover, and gain basic flying controls, the concentration can be a bit intense, but keep at it and within a few hours of flying time it all becomes much easier and more natural....
Still no where near as relaxing as flying planes thou..

That bloke wants to learn to fly in a straight line! Thats what my first attempt at flying looked like - all over the place
Always wanted an expensive "proper" nitro r/c helicopter since I was a little kid. The Mrs got me one of those electric ones at Christmas and it was a great laugh out of the box but took it back as it was too much hassle only getting a few minutes of flight time before having to recharge it again

Krazy, i've only had about 30 mins actual fight time on it so far, as i said, i fly in small bursts, and then recalm myself between.
I had an initial lesson and a mate did the rudder for me, buddied up, whilst i concentrated on hovering about a foot off the deck, then i went out yesterday with some crazy arsed hell flyer from a local club, and he said he'll just stand behind me, which he did for about 20 seconds, then he sodded off and sat on a bench watching my antics.
he said it was the best way, as everyone has different ideas and techniques and he says i need to find my own comfort level, without pressure.
he's also going to start a dedicated copter club, without the risk of some 90 yr old descending a 12 ft spitfire on your head.
ie: no planes or distractions. (which i think would be a good place to start)
my copter is a raptor 30 v1 with irvine 39, 50 size muff (ooh-er),anodised bling bling boom and skids, v2 head and flywheel/clutch stuff, bought it with a Futaba FF6 radio, baut had to fork out for the other bits (starter, field pack, box and panel etc.)
however, now i got all the bits, its really a cheap hobby (just fuel) - well at least until the point of impact.
I'll try and put a couple of pics up later (once i've edited out the fishing line holding it up in the air, lol)
cheers

I used to fly in the R/C aerobatic competitions. Those were very fast 'planes so I know what you mean about concentration. Did the National at Barkston Heath a few times. Great fun though.
Never got a chance to try helis, would have liked to but found other hobbies instead.
Bet its a bit hairy in the wind alright!
