Smile Parachute jump for charity

Got a e-mail from a chap at work asking this.................

Hi,
I’m looking into the possibility of organising a Tandem Sky Dive for Heavyweight staff. It would be done for a chosen charity. Each person would gather sponsors and pay for the dive out of the collection. Currently prices for the dive are about £200-250. All details/time/ place etc to be arranged but at the moment I’m just after an indication of who would be interested in doing it.
Let me know if you’re interested.
Thanks
Richard

So iv'e put my name fwd why, i don't know cos my knees go all jelly like at heights

So if i decide to go and do this mad jump who wants to sponser me ??
and any ideas which charity i could give the money too ???
suggestions welcome..........

come on peeps don't be tight, 30ish,000 members x 50p each = 15k to some lucky charity........

or if the company's that advertise on here would like to dip into the pockets and give a little more

Try setting up a just giving account.
Means you get the tax back for the charity and you don't have to chase people for the money

A couple of people I know have used it to manage sponsorship and it worked well
PS
By heavyweight do you mean senior management or plump?

I thought with these, the charity is already nominated, as its them who arrange it all

I did it a few years back, one of the best things I have ever done

Freefalling for 50 seconds, then about 5 minutes under canopy, with just about the purest silence you could ever have

and it was my first time ever in a plane too, and I jumped out

Talking

I'm doing one on Sun 15th. Didn't fancy being strapped to a burly instructor with BO and garlic breath, so have elected to do a solo jump under a steerable square chute.

Have nominated MIND (the mental health charity) and the Bristol Cancer Help Centre as my charities

Seemed like a good idea at the time, ask me again when I am sitting in the plane doorway about to jump, with my sphincter puckered up to the size of a mosquito's chuff

ps- as for asking for money from an internet forum...good luck! If it was as simple as that all our kids would sell 20,000 raffle tickets every ime they had a school fair!

I did a static line jump for charity a couple of years ago and it was absolutely brilliant. I had to spend the saturday doing training and a little multiple choice test and then jumped on the Sunday. The training starts off as a bit of a laugh until the instructor shows you video footage of people who jump and ignore all their training. Trust me, watching a video of someone bouncing off the side of the plane before getting tied up in their parachute makes you take the training seriously!

For me the plane journey up was the worst thing as I had to jump first (it's done in hight order) and there was no door on the plane which is interesting while the plane banks!

When the instructor tells you to get in the door (i.e sitting with yours legs dangling out the plane) the wind rush is unbelievable and for some reason as soon as the instructor says "GO" you just do without even thinking about it.

All of the 1000, 2000, 3000 check stuff goes out of the window as your brain is far too busy trying to make sense of why you are suddenly falling at a very quick rate. I only remembered about the parachute when I heard it opening.

Once you have done your training I recommend you get in as many jumps before winter as you can. Only downside is waiting around all day as preference seems to be given to the regulars as the while thing is very clique (or at least it is at headcorn)

The best parachute jump is the first. The worst jump is the second, because you know what's coming.

The best bit for me is being under the canopy and doing sharp turns etc. I used to have bets with the other guys in the plane about me beating them to the ground - I always won even if I was last out of the plane.

I even got bo11ocked a couple of times for doing hook turns below 1000 feet.
