Personally would recommend Barbados but not AI - although there are AI deals - but going BB or similar means you can sample the local cuisine and atmosphere better. Safe to be out at night without worrying about hassle and friendly locals. Local alcohol is cheap but anything imported can be expensive. Beaches are all public access by law so you can get to the best ones without staying in the expensive hotels too..

AI can be a bit pigs in a pen mate! You wanna get out and sample the local culture & nosh!
I'm off to Cuba in a few weeks, driving around - they say it is the most unspoilt of the Caribbean. Excellent value too - £376 for the flights FOR TWO Happy days!

I have been to Dominican and Cuba I would go back to the dominican 2 moro
loverly place and poeple as for Cuba "they say it is the most unspoilt" it is if you mean its falling to bits and full of muggers. Havana is the biggest $hit hole I have ever been to and I'm including sunderland in that... Nah its not that bad.

How about Tobago - did it last year with the missus - great place, lovely people, good food and beer and fairly reasonable. It's still fairly undiscovered, so no chavs!

Nothing wrong with the island, but I was on a all inclusive and the standard was nothing like the dominican but was still very nice, white sandy beaches etc...
We did a day trip to havana and we were hasseled by beggers from the moment we got off the bus until we got back on. I would go back to cuba but i would give havana a wide birth. But saying we had travaled all they way so it would have been a crime not to go.

Did a two week fly-drive around Jamaica a couple of years back. Scenery was spectacular (esp. Rosehall great house and Noel Coward's property). Natives were pretty friendly (in daylight at least), but the food was rather variable. Spent the thrid week on the beach at Negril, which was relaxing at first, but later stormy thanks to a passing hurricane!
Recomended? Yeah mon!

Cuba is great, for me anyway. I did AI in Guadalavac (sp?), where you could do anything (and I mean anything) you wanted to do... You could even water ski on 2 Dolphins if you wanted to and I did People were friendly, food not brilliant and the 50's look was quaint. Do the Jungle river boat ride - OMG they let you loose in a speed boat on your own and encourage you to get 'air' in it
Try the diving, IMHO it was very good. I missed Havana as it was too far and the reports weren't all that.
But for unspoilt beaches and crystal clear waters you'll have to do the Maldives instead.

Si,
Barbados is as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be..
If you want to do it cheap, drink the local beer - Banks (my favourite) at £1 or so a bottle and eat in the small 'local' restaurants rather than the fancy 'tourist' ones. Oistins is cheap for food but anything really fancy or imported is going to be expensive
Paul ( Going again in 2 weeks for the 4th time in 3 years - 3rd time at the Barbados Rally Carnival!!! )
