Default What d'you think of this buyer?

Hello all.

I was just wondering what you think of this - someone who wants to buy my car - it just sounds a bit strange?.....:

Thanks for your reply, am really interested in buying it so i want you ot tell all
other
interested buyer that it has been sold but presently am in sweden so
i thought payment will be a problem, not until my sale manager told me
that one of our client in UK is owing us the sum of £6800 so here is how i want
the payment to be...l have to forward your name and address to him to issue out a
CHEQUE to you on my behalf,so once the payment get to you, you will deduct your
money £6800 and then send the remaining money to my sale manager via western union
money transfer whom i will order to payment the shipping company
that will come for the pick up at a location close to you which will
be given to you by the shipping company.Do not worry your self i will take care of
the shipping arrangement.so i want you to email me back if this is okay by you.
thanks.

------
There we go. I don't quite know.
Do I go along with it?
Hasn't viewed the car, except in photos, but then I will get the asking price for it, which is nice.
Franx.

im 99% sure this is a scam mate, there was something similar to this on here before.

not sure how it works but in the end they take all the money from your account even the cash that had nothing to do with them.

fitz's advice - steer well clear

On the face of it ... looks dodgy as they come to me.

Don't really know what to suggest, suppose it could all be genuine.

IIRC...

They send you a forged / stolen cheque.
Money clears into your account.
You send on the 'surplus' via Western Union [1]
Original money gets removed from your account due to it being a rubber cheque
You're well down on the deal

[1] Western Union - now there's a sure fire sign of a scam!

Any involvement with Western Union has got to ring alarm bells - isnt it called a 419 scammer con?

It's a Range Rover

I'm thinking the same.

I sent an e-mail telling him to phone me over the next few days, so we'll see.
I don't quite know why he can't just send me a cheque himself though, rather than using a something like that, which sounds pretty dodgy to me.
In any case, I'd rather sell it to someone in the UK.
If he sends me a cheque though, & I clear it, then I suppose it's ok isn't it?
Can't take money from me or anything?

I see. Didn't realise that
How does that work, if it's already cleared though?

tbo, I'd not spend £3200 on a car I'd never seen - only in pictures - especially an old Landy.
I think maybe it's time to call this one off - although I will see if he phones me.
I think I'll put the car into someone's garage as well - as I gave him my address, before he sent me that e-mail, as I was expecting he'd be wanting to go & look at it
Better not get nicked

Im assuming that if someone made a cheque that looked just like the one from my chequebook, same account numbers and everything, wrote it and signed it providing the funds are in the account it would clear and everything would be normal until obviously the account owner realises the missing funds and the bank quickly yanks the funds back.

Scam.

But it's good sport/fun to lead this muppet on a bit.

Make him think he's got you and drop him at the last second.

Bleedin' Sweden as well
I wouldn't mind if he was in the UK, but there must be hundreds of those cars over there, without importing any more, which I can't see being cheap.

Do you think it matters that he now has my address?

Or should I put it into my pal's garage to be on the safe side? - as coz my insurance Co. is a pile of s!+t, they won't change the car's value to what it's actually worth, so it's down as market value. I'm trying to change it but they're useless, so it ain't that easy.
If it gets nicked therefore, I'll not get the full amount.

I wouldnt worry too much, im guessing these guys are just fishing - some will take the bait and some wont, if they wanted to nick cars im sure there are easier methods for them.

Basiclly a way of sending money but with no come back if anything goes wrong, mainly used by scammers.

This guy is pulling a well known scam on you, my advise leave it well alone and don't bother replying.

This variation on the scam doesn't even make sense, it's even less plausable than the others! What would your company (the "client") do if they were asked to make a cheque payable to someone they hadn't heard of before (Franx) , with no receipt etc?

Another call....

Apparently he can do me a good deal on a Panasonic TH-42PA20U plasma - 420GBP per unit. Just go to my bank and remit £1260 for 3 units to: Floril Lubca, UNIRI #7, Criaivo, Romania.

Gonna wind this ****** up good and proper - just waiting for his email....

I wouldn't worry about giving the guy your address, you'll be one of hundreds that he's sending mails to. If you don't reply he won't even remember you - too busy mailing other victims.

Alternatively just mail him and say the cars sold to a cash buyer who offerred asking price - only if he took it there and then.

Angry

I still don't fancy it.
In any case, I'd rather sell it to someone 'real', not an e-mail, as it's a nice car, & I wouldn't mind seeing it go to someone I like, not a dodgy geezer in Sweden

I shall see if he phones me. If not, I'll forget it

It does seems like quite a lot of trouble to go to, just to get a car into the country - but I suppose that's his business. Probably some laundering scam that I don't want to get involved with.

If he phones, I think I'll say that I'm having nothing to do with his suggested arrangement, but if he's able to do me either a banker's draft, cash (which is unlikely (I wouldn't, anyway), or a personal cheque, which is given time to clear, I'm going elsewhere & he can sort all the shipping out - not my affair at all. A lot of pi$$ing about, & checking stuff, in my experience

Tbo, I'd rather have nothing to do with the whole thing....I don't like fraud, especially not when it's directed at me

Thanks for the advice
Chris.
