Shops are great.
Weather depends on time of year, April May, very hot, I suspect July / August might be unbearable
Don't have kids so can't comment on that

Lived there for 4 years in 80's. Wonderful place and getting even bigger and better by the month. I go a lot on business. All the hotels along Jumairah are lovely. Very hot but hotels a lot less expensive in July and August. Great shopping in large air conditioned malls. Cheap taxis. Just a wonderful destination.

Been back a week. There is a lot of building work in the area. We stayed with my brother then in the Shangri La.
The Jumeriah Beach is some way from the city centre so could be difficult transport wise. The temperature is rising and is unbearable in July/August!

went there last November stayed at the Hilton Jumeirah Beach, absolutely wonderful. Weather was great about 25 to 30 C (would of prefered it a bit hotter as I love the hot weather).
Plenty of trips to do, reccomend the desert safari (racing about the desert in 4x4's - plenty of getting stuck !!), shopping is good they have the most amazing fakes - if your into that thing.
Very safe place to visit and live, beaches are great as well as are thewater sports.

I have, went on Qutar Airways. Managed to bed the air hostess too, which was a bonus
Quite a strange place, but aslong as you have someone with you that knows the place can be good.

Came back last Friday from a week at Jumeirah Beach (and a week in the Maldives).
Hotel is ace, rooms very big, food is absolutely superb without being too expensive and the staff can't do enough for you. I can't remember any building work around the Jumeirah.
For kids, there is a selection of pools, a safe harbour area where the sea is always flat and the Wild Wadi water park which is free for Hotel guests (has the fastest/highest water slides outside of the US) with loads of lifeguards so you don't need to go with them.
The hotel also runs a number of shuttle buses in and out of the town centre every day so getting into the centre of Dubai is no problem at all and do some trading with the locals - good fun.
The weather was early 30s.
I would recommend it.
