The Cateye Cordless 7 is quite a good one. Does everything that I need, but none of the really advanced stuff that the more expensive ones do.

Yeah - got the Cateye Cordless 7 myself. Does all the basic stuff like instant speed, total distance (odometer), ride distance, average speed, max speed and elapsed time.

Usefully, it shows your instant speed in tenths of a mph or km/h, which is better than the VDO that I've got on my other bike.

And cordless is a must for any MTB with front suspension.

I've had a Sigma for years - was a cable model but was Ronseal.

I had a Sigma on my GSXR600 motorbike, worked wonderfully, I'm sure it'll be fine on an MTB
