Hmm......interesting one this. Looked out of the window tonight at midnight to see 4 "yoofs" running at hedges and jumping into/on them. Wierd. Not very friendly behaviour either. One of them was almost practicing karate chops at them, then jumping in.

Wierdly, one of them was videoing it all in a MTV Jackass kind of style. They looked either very drunk or drugged up to be honest. Behaviour proven by the fact that 2 minutes later, 2 of them were spewing their guts up on the pavement big style. Nice.

I would have gone out to see if their camcorder was one of the new types that bounced of kerbstones well, but always a bit cautious with 4 drunk/drugged nutters, and 1 of me. Really need to get my CCTV system up & running so I can recognise their faces in future while they are out & about alone, and hopefully check if their heads are also of the new type which bounce off said kerbstones.

Interestingly, from their accents, they seemed to be fairly well-spoken, and therefore (non)pretty-well-educated chaps who probably have their heads screwed on 99% of the time.

I accept "yoofs" will be "yoofs", but vandalism round here is starting to pi$$ me off. Needless disregard for cleanliness (litter), damage (bins, gardens, cars, benches, streetlights, fences) etc.

I should add, this area is one of the highest earning postcodes in the UK, so we're not talking Mosside/Brixton/wherever.

Come to think about it, I should have just taken the camcorder, run away, and sold it on Ebay. Their incriminating evidence is all on their own tape too into the bargain!

Just put some nails/pins and glass in the hedge, that should cure your little problem or theirs. lol!!!

I think the propblem is that we have no great wars now for the youth of the day to get the violent **** out of their system. Also they keep receiving conflicting messages as to what their role in society is and how they should behave. The fact that they can't handle their booze don't help much!

Don't think it is a new craze In the halcyon days of my 'yoof' I am pretty sure I ended up in a hedge or two. If I didnt, I certainly have blurry eyed memories of others doing it

And I was a boarder at a public school, with a degree and an MSc behind me now...so certainly edumacated Well, supposedly....

Just to point out, I'm not condoning this behaviour - if I was to be disturbed now by people barrelling through my hedge I too would want to bounce their heads on the pavement! Just saying its nothing new, and I guess boys will be boys!! (

Thats exactly what they were doing. Loads of kids do the Jackass copycat thing and have been for a a few years. I have seen them in Tescos car park doing the trolley surfing etc and filming it. Better than vandalising cars I spose!

Just make sure that your hedge is made up of natural defences, ie brambles, hawthorn, gorse, holly, roses or any other sort of prickly shrub

I used to do this years ago.
Privet hedges are the best. Very bouncy

Privet hedges were a fave when I was "edge oppin" nearly 30 years ago!
Had to watch out for bramble or other nasties growing in it tho. Remember one lad went thro a hawthorn headge to prove his hardness - he cried his way home that night!

I can remember doing this too as a child. Needless to say, in my day there were no camcorders to record the evidence.
